I was discussing this with one of the people I talk with on dndonlinegames.com and it was mentioned that sorcerers aren't nearly as versatile as wizards when it comes to spells. Though while sorcerers don't have to do any "anticipating" like wizards do for their spells. I got to thinking. What if, to make wizards more useful and sorcerers more believable, why not do a combination of two things.

The alternate rules provided in the book Unearthed Arcana are perfect for wizards with a sorcerous flavor, however, if you don't want to keep up with spell points, spell slots will still work just fine. In that a wizard gets a certain number of spells per day. That wizard need not prepare more than one copy of the same spell, he can cast it as he needs (provided the necessary spell slots are availabe). This can change from day to day as he sees fit or needs to update his spells memorized.

I have an additional rule that I'd like to add for convenience sake for wizards. Those who take the feat Spell Mastery who don't need a spellbook to memorize spells, can use those spells as well as any he's memorized for that day just by spending a spell slot of the required level.

Using this set of rules, the spontaneous metamagic rules would apply to the wizard as well.

The alternate rules I present for the sorcerer are slightly different. I propose upping the hit die from a d4 to a d6. I also suggest proficiency with light armor.
