300 Spartan Fighting Style/Class? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-02-07, 06:48 PM Was wondering if there are any books out there that give rules on Spartan fighting like in 300. If not a book, maybe someone has a link to some good homebrew rules? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

08-02-07, 07:07 PM ToB Crusaders and Warblades with the Class Defense Bonus variant rule (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/defenseBonus.htm) cover the Spartans pretty well.

08-02-07, 07:17 PM More crusader than warblade, I'd say, but yes, IRememberCecil has the right idea. I looked at that movie and thought "there's nothing these guys do that a crusader doesn't, except look that good without armor". You can get around the armor somewhat using a class defense or similar system.

The intial intention behand the monkey grip feat was to allow use of the spear in one hand, with a shield in the other. It didn't quite do that in 3.0 and doesn't at all in 3.5. However you can, with that feat, use a large version of a short spear and do d8 damage, IIRC.

Alo there are feats that give bonuses for fighting in groups as a shield wall, as well as things like improved shield bash, or improved bull rush. The fighter has enough feats available to be pretty good with short sword, short spear, and shield. You'll not want to invest any in ranged weapons, but Improved citical and devastating critical are great feats, espcially with a shortsword.

Just some thoughts.

08-02-07, 08:37 PM I have a PrC that multiclasses Monk/Fighter and allows Stunning Fist with Shield Bash and allows Monk AC bonues even when using a shield (but not with armor). The presidence for the class ability comes from the Argent Fist in Faiths of Eberron which is a Paladin/Monk PrC that allows Wis and Monk bonuses to AC even in armor and when carrying a shield. Mine is pretty tame by comparrison. The PrC also treated shortswords and shortspears as Monk weapons.

when i finish ill present for feedback
but i think its possible: pretty much focus on spears and short sword combined with shield combat.
the hoplite was one heck of a combatant
