| Tawamureru01-02-04, 12:00 AM | Here's my take on the Swashbuckler PRC. It's just only a 5 level PRC so it's not as lengthy as the others but it still takes some abilites from the other swashbuckler PRCs and a bit from the swashbuckler coreclass in the Complete Warrior and a bit from my own. Swashbuckler A dashing fighter bound by no laws, a loudmouth who thinks silence is cheap copper, a lady's man or a loathed scroundal, all within one person called a Swashbuckler. A very skillful fighter in both verbal and physical agility but clearly not one of the brightest warriors a hardern fighter has seen. More focused in technique than brute force, the Swashbuckler plays with his own rules and code which are never written down. Hailing from the stormy seas or sandy deserts, Swashbucklers come in many unqiue forms but all share the common traits of their flair, smooth talking, and great agility. The Swashbuckler's attack deals extra damage any time his target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the Swashbuckler flanks his target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and it increases by 1d6 every two Swashbuckler levels thereafter. Should the Swashbuckler score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. With a sap (blackjack) or an unarmed strike, a Swashbuckler can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. He cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual -4 penalty. A Swashbuckler can sneak attack only living creatures with discernible anatomies-undead, constructs, oozes, plants, and incorporeal creatures lack vital areas to attack. Any creature that is immune to critical hits is not vulnerable to sneak attacks. The Swashbuckler must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A Swashubckler cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment or striking the limbs of a creature whose vitals are beyond reach. Witty Retort: A Swashbuckler knows exactly how to distract others and gain their attention especially when the chosen target wouldn't want to break their concentration. This ability must be vocal to succeed. The Swashbuckler can make a Witty Retort against any action that requires a person to concentrate such as casting a spell. To use this ability, the Swashbuckler must not be under the threat of an enemy, be within 30 ft of their chosen target, and make a ready action on their turn to use this ability once the chosen trigger is activated ( such as a sorcerer casting a spell or any other choice ). The targeted person must make a concentration check ( 10 + Swashbuckler's Charisma Bonus + Swashbuckler level ) or automaticly fail their action for their turn because they are busy shouting back at the Swashbuckler. This ability can also be used on people who are not concentrating on anything to merely distract them for a moment as a standard action. The targeted person must make a will save ( 10 + Swashbuckler's Charisma Bonus + Swashbuckler level ) or have a -2 penalty to their AC while shouting back ( but can have their full action to do whatever they wish on their turn like killing the Swashbuckler ) at the Swashbuckler until the Swashbuckler's next turn. Note: The DM can feel silly and make the target make a comment back at the Swashbuckler after failing his save. Acrobatic Attack: A Swashbuckler uses his agility to find a way to quickly close the space between him and his opponet with his acrobatic skill. He can add in a bonus to his attack rolls ( +1 to hit per 5 ranks in Tumble ) by using his ranks in Tumble while making a Charge or using the feat Spring Attack. The Swashbuckler can only use this ability in light or no armor. Graceful Evasion: Swashbucklers know how to make each trip into an intentional step by rolling into it. He can gain a bonus for his AC ( +1 AC per 5 ranks in Bluff ) by using his ranks in Bluff. The Swashbuckler can only use this ability in light or no armor. He also loses this ability when he is normally denied his dexterity modifier to his AC in combat. Better Lucky Than Good: Luck is both a Swashbuckler's best friend and worst enemy in life. Not all luck is good nor is it all bad for them but depends on your chance for that day. Once a day, a Swashbuckler may have a free reroll on any failed attack roll, save, or skill check. The Swashbucker must take the reroll even if it's not the desired outcome. Dashing Strike: A Swashbuckler makes his attacks with flair and finess which some might call too showy but on the receiving end, the flamboyant attacks deal more damage than normal. The Swashbuckler may add in his charmisa modifier to his damage rolls ( this stacks with previous damage modifiers ) for a total of 5 times a day. The Swashbuckler can only use this ability in light or no armor. |
