| BleuDarkHeart08-29-07, 05:32 PM | So i am playing a Monk and am wanting to go straight monk and then take Drunken Master ASAP. So far i am doing alright. I am human in Eberron with: 18 str 14 dex 12 con 15 int 16 wis 10 cha So i am looking at taking stunning fist and then taking Decisive strike from phb2. My char feats are 1great fort, Dodge, 3Pharoah's fist from Sandstorm for the to aug the stunning strike. What im looking for is to get from feats that will help with the drunken master abilities. I notice DM doesnt have improvised weapon profic. so i am wondering how this class feature is put ot best use. Thoughs? Feats? Something? I wanna make a awsome Drunken master with only a monk but i need help on how to do it i think. |
| EpicEvokerElf08-29-07, 05:35 PM | Two things: Your INT is WAY too high, lower it to like 10 and raise CON. Also, take Ability Fcs (Stunning Fist) instead of Great Fort. |
| dman1123508-29-07, 06:45 PM | but if you absolutely need int, lower it to 12, cha to 8, and con to 16. |
| risner08-29-07, 09:40 PM | So i am playing a Monk and am wanting to go str8 monk 18 str Which is it? STR 8 or STR 18 I can say for sure, that STR 8 isn't a good idea. |
| dman1123508-29-07, 09:56 PM | I think he meant "straight" not "str8". |
| BleuDarkHeart08-30-07, 12:28 AM | Two things: Your INT is WAY too high, lower it to like 10 and raise CON. Also, take Ability Fcs (Stunning Fist) instead of Great Fort. Yes but i need the high int in order to Drink like a Demon. I figure that with the 15 int i can take 7 drinks to raise my str by 14 cause if i lower it to 10 i can only take 4 drinks. Make sense? Also i have to take great fort for the drunken master prerec |
| dman1123508-30-07, 12:48 AM | Remember, it also lowers wisdom, so you might want to balance that. I think that 12 works because you can get a +2 item and take 6 drinks, thus gaining a + 12 to str, which is more than enough, but it will lower your AC and rational thought processes by a lot. Also, you do need great fort for the class, EEE. Personally, I think it was one of the worst made PrCs out there, as it lowers a stat that is probably the primary for monk as it's primary class feature, and you need to be a monk to enter. Don't bother taking ability focus, as your save DC would be 10+1/2 character level-2 WITH the feat after drinking. Granted, battle will be over by the time you get 6 drinks down, as it takes a move action per drink. You'll probably want to stick with one or two drinks, putting your DC at 10+1/2 CL+3 with ability focus, still probably not worth it. If you stick with 2 drinks, you don't really need that int booster. |

Also i have to take great fort for the drunken master prerec It's a move equivelant action to drink, so say 2 drinks a round. Even then, 3 rounds solid drinking then you lose your move in the 4th? That's a lot of let's-get-pumped-up for not a great deal of benefit man... + your AC goes to hell |
| BleuDarkHeart08-30-07, 01:07 AM | + your AC goes to hell But you dont take a neg to your AC when your wisdom bonus is lost |
| BleuDarkHeart08-30-07, 01:08 AM | Also i know the stunning fist goes down but you know now that i look over this class how is it that anyone thinks this is such a broken class? I have confused myself with this cause i was taking this class cause i was ganna try to prove it wasnt broken. But now im looking at this and thinking that this class is kinda weak. |
| Majick08-30-07, 01:15 AM | But now im looking at this and thinking that this class is kinda weak. Yeah, sadly it kinda is. They had all the right intentions but you will get MURDERED if you actually try this crazy drinking thing in combat, and even if you got time, you got a wicked strength and constitution score but your gonna get nailed to the ground with your crummy AC. There are a fair bit better PrC's out there for Monk's my friend, but quite a few require a couple of feats to get into, so unless your allowed to re-do your character or your DM allows feat retraining, your pretty much stuck with flat Monk |
| dman1123508-30-07, 01:19 AM | It really is. Monks love wisdom like none other, and the main ability of the class lowers it. The "brokeness" that people are talking about probably comes from improvised weapons, but I have no idea why as they advance slower than your unarmed strike damage anyway. Its really just fun. It doesn't work with the RP aspects either, as a monk would never do something like that. I may play one some time, just because it will be fun. No other reason, it won't be anywhere near optomized, just fun. |
| dman1123508-30-07, 01:22 AM | Try monk/scorcerer/enlightened fist, that might be fun as well (take ascetic mage (CAdv)). Or sacred fist (monk 1/cleric 4/ sacred fist 10/cleric 5). Or maybe straight monk, that's not bad, they can easily get away with it. Or maybe fist of Zuoken (psionic fist in the SRD). |
| BleuDarkHeart08-30-07, 11:46 AM | Do you still take a -4 while using improvised weapons? Is there anything for proficiency for improvised weapons? What about making them into monk weapons? suggestions? |
| dman1123508-30-07, 12:13 PM | Just the drunken master. That's the only one I know of. You could take one level if you REALLY wanted, but who need improvised weapons if you've got throwing/returning body parts (savage species, amulet of natural attacks). |
| BleuDarkHeart08-31-07, 06:39 AM | Actually look at Drunken Master again. At no point does it say you get improvised weapon proficiency. I was shocked but it doesn't say it in the proficiency section nor under the improvised weapon (ex). So to even use the extraordinary ability you still must take the -4 to your attack which is sad :( |
| Leaflitter08-31-07, 10:31 AM | just say you has improvised weapon proficiency. if you get to use them just house rule that your proficient. that’s what i do when i play. |
| EpicEvokerElf08-31-07, 11:31 AM | The amulet of nat. attacks is 3.0, so you'd need a houserule or conversion. It's much too good. |
