Hi there,

Here's my problem. I need to create a 5th level halfling with 80 pts. (1 pt. = 1 ability pt.), using the PHB 3.5 alone, for a Fields of Blood tournament. Honestly, the last time I played D&D it was still 3.0, and I'm a bit wary of the other competitors uh... skill with number-crunching 101. ;)

What do you think is the best option for a war leader? I'm leaning towards a wizard, possibly a transmuter. Any ideas?

Thanks for the time,
JWK

Play a Rogue with an 18 Dex, Point Blank Shot, and Rapid Shot.
Spend your money on Alchemist's Acid and Fire.
Throw them for 1d6 elemental damage + 3d6 Sneak Attack damage as touch attacks that drop your Dex to AC. You'll hit every time, for a total of 8d6+2 damage per round, every round.

Just a random idea...

Should it be a sorcerer, here a spell-pick suggestion:
Level 1:
Charm Person
Grease
Magic Missile
Ray of Enfeeblement
Level 2:
Web
Glitterdust

A real combat caster's choise. Needs Cha 18 like nothing else. Talking eagles splendor for one of the 2nd level spells could be worth it, too. In any case spell focus conjuration is one feat to take.

5th level hugh? Crazy stats hugh?

Paladin4/Fighter1

I think for the fighter feat you can pick out divine might. I am not sure. Anyway. You'll have good saves good damage output like everyone else. Lay on hands is good when you're not in the brink of the action. I recommend being a human though.

next level
fighter
after that pious templar 4.

Or actually paladin 5 is good because you get your mount yeah.

you want specifically a war leader?

if so, cleric or bard IMO are probably your best bets.

you should be able to get diplomacy up to 40s or 50s + 1d20 by level 5 with bard. That'll make hostile enemies friendly or something. You can also get fanatical followers if your dm lets you use the epic skill chart. That's a war leader.

Go to character optimization boards for more info about this bard.

With 80 point buy I suggest maxing out charisma, intelligence 10-14. wisdom 10-14. con 10-18. dex 18. str 10-18. Depends on what kind of support you plan to be if battle occurs with int 1-2 creatures who you can't bust out diplomacy with. I suggest a good intelligence and the skill that lets you speak more languages. That way you'll diplomacy pretty much everyone. Just keep maxing ranks in that and diplomacy. Of course get 5 ranks in sense motive bluff knowledge nobility and royalty (it's assumed you take it already to get the 40-50 diplomacy).

Archery is nice support, unless your party rogues need flankers then you might want to step in as a secondary fighter. Depends on party really. But you wouldn't be fighting much. Rush diplomacy in the middle of whatever battle occurs... this way your opponents will start to follow you if you can manage so.

Max ranks in perform of course. Rest doesn't matter.

I need to create a 5th level halfling with 80 pts. (1 pt. = 1 ability pt.) wooooooaaaaah. that sounds really high. heh, for true brokenness, try this:

halfling barbarian 5
Str: 30
Dex: 1
Con: 44
Int: 3
Wis: 1
Cha: 1
average hp: 12 + 4d12(average 26) + 85= 123 hp.
average damage (with a greatsword of course): 2d6(average 7) + 15(two hands)= 22, at +15 to hit (+5 BAB +10 Str). add in some magic items more more fun.
rage to increase damage by 3, and hp by 10. the penalty to AC means nothing. stand there, take some hits, beat the living hell outta somebody.

or you could just take any class and put 70 in dex so you'll never, ever get hit.

...now of course, if you have maximum ability scores, then that changes everything :D .
