| Reldo05-31-06, 10:46 PM | If you have a high ability score, does it not only give you more spells per day, but does it also increase your spells known/spells in spellbook? |
| Deity05-31-06, 10:48 PM | No it doesn't. The PHB specifically says that spells known is a fixed number, and bonus spells apply only to spells per day. |
| JLaurHughes05-31-06, 11:03 PM | It does increase the amount of spells in your spellbook, as far as first level learned spells. the PHB specifically states "A wizard begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level wizard spells (except those from her prohibited school or schools, if any; see School Specialization, below) plus three 1st-level spells of your choice. For each point of Intelligence bonus the wizard has, the spellbook holds one additional 1st-level spell of your choice. At each new wizard level, she gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new wizard level) for her spellbook. At any time, a wizard can also add spells found in other wizards’ spellbooks to her own." |
| Bulletproof_Condom05-31-06, 11:17 PM | It doesn't give you extra spells known when you level, though. Just spell slots per day. |
| JLaurHughes06-01-06, 12:12 AM | It doesn't give you extra spells known when you level, though. Just spell slots per day. I never said that it did. |
| Silverthumb12806-01-06, 12:20 AM | I never said that it did. He wasn't responding to your post, it just happened that yours came first. |
| Bulletproof_Condom06-01-06, 02:37 AM | I kinda was. What's wrong with clarifying? I wouldn't want people to make assumptions. That would make an ass out of you and... mumptions. |
| Ziggaraut06-01-06, 03:59 PM | How about we go for the slightly more confused one, i.e. the sorcerer's spells known. Unless one actually READS the text (something people are doing less and less), it's sometimes confusing on whether it applies or not. It doesn't. |
| Insane Pixie06-01-06, 04:08 PM | What about casters without spellbooks or spells known? (Druid/Cleric) Do they gain bonus spells even if they don't have any spells per day of that level? For example, a 1st level Druid with Cha 18. I've never been able to solve this with my fellow DMs. (Although the answer is probably just a huge oversight on my part.) |
| Ziggaraut06-01-06, 04:19 PM | Well, a 1st level druid with Wis 18 would have 3 Orisons and 2 1st level spells per day. At third level, he would have 4 Orisons, 3 1st level spells, and 2 2nd level spells per day, if that is what your asking. Thusly, one cannot have bonus spells for that day if one has a - where a number would be. If said chart has a 0, that would mean he would get no spells of that level per day UNLESS he has a bonus spell for that day. |
