| Melpomene04-20-05, 03:08 PM | After reading today's figures, I now have 46 official playable *core* classes. That's right, you can choose one of 46 classes at 1st level. *dances* Alright, I'm done... |
| Nuntius12804-20-05, 08:45 PM | Sweet! Congrats! Hahaha. Is that 46 that you've made, or that WoTC has made? |
| Melpomene04-20-05, 08:47 PM | They're all from official d20 books. I always feel the classes I create lack a certain authenticity. |
| Nuntius12804-20-05, 09:08 PM | Ehh, mine do too. Still, 46 d20 classes? Wow. How many of those are Samurai or Ninja? They seriously need to decide what kind of abilities they have. There are too many. If there's more than 1 class of the samename, its TOO MANY. I'd hate to see how many PrCs there are. Especially compared to how many are really used. |
| Lexarius04-20-05, 09:25 PM | I had wondered why there weren't more base classes in 3.0. Seemed like the base classes were being neglected for the PrCs. When 3.5 came around, I saw several new variant classes in Dragon magazine. While it seemed like a step back in the direction of kits, it did seem like it might be a positive one. Then we actually got base classes in splatbooks. While a few of them felt like they should have stayed in PrC land (Spellthief), I figure the more the merrier. |
| strenoth04-21-05, 01:45 AM | well, the other places to go grab D20 classes are Wheel of Time D20, Staw Wars D20, Modern D20 (and suplemental materials). ANd that's just the sources I'm sure are WotC. |

| Melpomene04-21-05, 11:14 PM | Ranger is a pretty good class... ::contemplates a hobgoblin Jedi:: |
| Kaboth04-21-05, 11:54 PM | Curiousity has struck me since all this is d20. Does this mean classes from other games could work in DnD potentially? |
| Orvar04-22-05, 07:18 AM | Aw man, I only have 21... But hey, I have 109 Prestige Classes. So, 140 classes total? That feels good. |
| Wildonion04-22-05, 08:40 AM | *Whistles* Thats a lot of core classes! In my opinion that is a little to much! My party does fine with the PH core classes and occasionaly (About every other campaign) ones from either Unearthed Arcana, Complete Warrior/Divine/Arcane, and once we had a ranger from the D20 book the Quintesential ranger. (Of course it could be my hatred of two of my players constantly 'muchkinising to the point of no return' talking! :D ) |
| Lexarius04-22-05, 11:06 AM | Curiousity has struck me since all this is d20. Does this mean classes from other games could work in DnD potentially? In theory, someone with a d20 Modern PHB and a D&D PHB could duke it out in a fair fight. Most d20 stuff is supposed to be compatible. But in reality, this is often not the case. In some cases the power levels vary wildly from the core d20. The system may be internally balanced, but I wouldn't expect most third party game designers to worry about things like, "Is my Technomancer class balanced compared to the D&D Wizard? How does my Brawler compare to Fighter and Barbarian?". I would think very carefully about allowing material from one setting to another. I'm finding some of the material in d20 Modern to be useful in my current D&D campaign because there is a time travel aspect. Mostly just equipment and a few feats, though. |
| Melpomene04-23-05, 12:42 AM | Aw man, I only have 21... But hey, I have 109 Prestige Classes. So, 140 classes total? That feels good. I'm a nudge over 300 PrCs... I know that there are only so many choices people can actually handle and use, but, I enjoy the diversity of many. I'm sure there are other people who have more classes than I. |
| Phantom Lord04-23-05, 07:43 AM | Uh, I'm at 7 core classes so far. Of my own making. Plus revised versions of the basic 11 included in the PHB. I personally think that several hundred choices of class is overboard, but that's just my humble opinion. |

An advisor once asked the Western Paladin how much gold would be enough. “I have no need of fools who can imagine ‘enough,’” he told the advisor's corpse. |
| Razoreface04-24-05, 10:41 PM | Last time I checked, there weren't 46 core classes, let alone base classes... but then, I'm one of those whackos who don't call a book Core unless it says "Core Rulebook X" on the cover. :) |
