| Sinister DM06-02-05, 03:40 AM | Let's say a barbarian gain damage reduction 10/- . This means, that even if you stab him with a +5 magical dagger (with no other bonusses), he takes no damage. If you, on the other hand, burn him with 1 points of magical fire, he is hurt? Shouldn't a barbarian also get Fire/Cold/Acid/Sonic resistance at the same rate? |
| runestar06-02-05, 05:15 AM | The question is: why should he? Dr is a physical property, elemental resistance is a magical property, which does not tie in with the flavour of the barbarian, despite what conotations it has with Diablo2 barbarian. |
| Medwyn06-02-05, 09:26 AM | Doesn't ordinary fire bypass Damage Reduction also? |
| Darazel06-02-05, 09:34 AM | Doesn't ordinary fire bypass Damage Reduction also? Yes, it does. |
| Sinister DM06-02-05, 11:44 AM | So this guy takes no damage from being stabbed with a weapon, but is hurt by a light burn. This does not make sense..... |
| JStegmaier06-02-05, 12:21 PM | So this guy takes no damage from being stabbed with a weapon, but is hurt by a light burn. This does not make sense..... And yet, those are the rules. D&D != reality. If you haven't figured that one out, you have a long way to go. House rule that DR also subtracts from elemental damage if you want it to make sense, but I have the feeling that WotC isn't about to issue errata for this particular issue. |
| CzarGarrett06-02-05, 12:32 PM | If you feel that there is that much of an issue, talk with your DM (or if you are the DM), swap out a few abilities for some resitances. Drop 1 rage/day for Fire Resist 10, or increase the AC and fatigued penalties in exchange for Acid Resist 10, so on. |
