What do you think of a Mindbender and Beguiler build (from Complete Arcane and Player's Handbook II respectively)? Do you think it would be worth not continuing to take levels in beguiler to go into that prestige class?

for those of you who are not familiar a Mindbender is a Prestige Class that allows you to gain better and better manipulation abilities and eventually the ability to permanently dominate one creature (large or smaller) and have 4 people permanently charmed.

The Beguiler is a Class that mixes Rogue and Sorcerer while specializing in manipulation and diplomacy (as well as the other interaction skills). Few, if any, attack spells. But it gains a 'sneak attack' bonus to some of its spells.

What do you think?

One level of Mindbender is worth taking. After that? Nah.

Take a look at the duration of dominate monster and dominate person -- you can have lots more than one at a time. :)

The Mindbender is, more or less, a trap. It grants so little spellcasting and such level-inappropriate abilities that it ends up being worse at bending minds than a straight-classed Sorcerer. The first level of Mindbender is golden. Anything beyond that and you're basically shooting yourself in the foot.

Believe it or not I've made a workable mindbender build that takes more than one mindbender level.

hexblade13 (with dark companion variant)/mindbender7

The hexblade doesn't care as much about his spellcasting ability so the loss of caster levels doesn't hurt as much. Use the hexblade's debuffing abilities to make it much easier to hit with the charms and dominate.
