| elven warriorXX08-07-05, 04:20 PM | if a gave the ranger a BAB of good, but only with bow attacks (like the Archer made on these boards) will that make him to unbalancing? i want to make the ranger more of an archer then a variant fighter. please post what you think |
| MasterOfPsychic08-07-05, 04:25 PM | the ranger does already have a BAB of good... |
| elven warriorXX08-07-05, 04:43 PM | i was thinking to lower it to medium and rise it when he uses a bow :) is that to under powered/overpowered? |

| elven warriorXX08-07-05, 04:50 PM | okay so it is fine with just a BAB of good for all weapons. i will just add more abilities. |
| Rulebook08-07-05, 04:57 PM | are you useing a 3.0 ranger or something? they already HAVE enough abilities. there's like 2 levels where they DONT get something! and the 6x skill points make them true beasts! |
| elven warriorXX08-07-05, 05:00 PM | ya i like the old 3.0 ranger |
| Rulebook08-07-05, 05:11 PM | *shudder* the old ranger was horrible. There was pretty much no reason at all to play one, no abilities worth anything, crappy skill points, its only saving graces were the full BAB and d10's, making them merely poor two-weapon fighters, who have the CHANCE to be decent ones against certian enemies. |
| Borris08-07-05, 06:47 PM | Actually, the 3.0 ranger was an awesome 1-level dip. By taking a single level as a ranger, you'd gain d10 hp, 4+Int skill points, proficiency with simple and martial weapons, light and medium armor, and shields, +1 against a favored enemy, Track as a bonus feat, a +1 BAB and +2 to Fortitude, and free Ambidexterity and Two-Weapon Fighting feats as long as you're not wearing armor heavier than light. Better yet, as soon as you'd reach a BAB of +9, you'd also gain Improved Two-Weapon Fighting for free. With those rules, by taking his second level as a ranger rather than a rogue, a Rogue 19/Ranger 1 halfling could effectively gain four free feats (although Track would be useless), +2 hp, +2 Fort, +1 to Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, Wilderness Lore, and weapon damage against a creature type (let's say human), and better weapon proficiency, all in exchange for the loss of a +1 to Reflex saves, +1 to saves against traps, and two skill points. Every fighter or rogue (and even some other classes) would take a level of ranger just for those insane benefits. Good thing they changed the class for 3.5. |

The Ranger class only covered the prereqs for you. Ranger 3.5 is a huge improvement over ranger 3.0 but the Scout in Complete Adventurer may take away a little of its use. |
