| 0datdude007-06-07, 01:31 PM | Ive been kicking around an abjurant champion build for a while, and Ive got a few questions in reguard to protection. At first I though between mage armor and shield I would be fine ( see title no abjurant armor arguments please). When it came to to plan out the guys spells I noticed dispel magic would be great I could cast it swift ( its an abjuration spell) and then it hit me. If I depended on magearmor and shield I'd be in deep owlbear dropings if I ran into another caster. Assuming a build of 4 fighter/2sorc/5ac with the practiced spellcaster feat, I'd be an 11th level caster. That is a roll of an 11 for someone as powerful as myself to take down own of my main two means of protection. To get around this I need one of two things. 1.) a way to fortify my self against dispell magic. 2.) an easy way to get some level of immunity to arcane spell failure with the above build. I would not mind skipping mage armor to have somthing to fallback on if shield gets taken out. Hopefully without giving me to much of a hit in the caster level department. |

Another good way to get into abjurant champion is battle sorceror. Its especially good with the stalwart sorceror variant. Battle sorc gets cleric progression for base attack, full caster progression, but less spells per day, and known That will prevent you from losing spell levels Twilight mithril chain shirt has an arcane failure % of 0 btw |

Later on, you can put in Greater Dispel Magic instead. At least that should negate any targeted dispel magic aimed at you. Area affect dispel magic is a different story. |

It will be a little tight I think, but battle sorcerer nets you a full caster level so that you'll be a caster equal to your level once you go into abjurant champion. You'll have less spells known (which will hurt a bit)... but you can focus your spell selection to make it work. Plus, this way, you don't have to spend a feat on practiced caster. There is also a feat in one of the Faerun books that gives you a +2 against dispelling... I believe it's called spell girding. It's not that great, but it might be of some use to you. |
