A Blackpowder class? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Are there any? I mean I've been checking through the lists available in these threads and I haven't found any links that work. Examples being Musketeer.

I mean here's what I'm looking for:
My DM is starting my group off brand new so we don't kill our normal characters off. He wants to take us on a coastal campaign and play with pirates and stuff...A little too much Pirates of the Carabian for him is my guess.

Anyways, I'd like to play the dwarf that sit inside the ship and mans that cannons until its time to board then when it comes to character combat rather than ship combat I would like to weild a few single shot pistol/musket/rifles and then when I've worked through my blackpowder I'd go in for some skull crushing hammer swings...

Basicly playing the character as afraid of water so he keeps it out of regular sight and then he uses everything he has to keep away from the rails until he has to...

Anyways as I was aking are there any classes that this could be played through or should I try creating one?

Thanks in advance.

Fighter

See that really isn't helpful. I know a fighter could play this role, but that isn't what I'm looking to do. After all if I pick a fighter he isn't likely to have a Canoneer inclination.

What is a "cannoneer inclination", and why wouldn't any class you play have such an inclination if you, as the player, wanted it to?

I guess this is why 3E and I have parted company. Good luck with the PC.

The 3.0 Ravenloft supplement Van Richten's Arsenal had a "Pistoleer" Prestige class, IINM. It might help you out. :D

This is a class I made up awhile ago based on this concept. I just posted the updated version. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=767186

Also, if you have access to them, the Warcraft series of DnD supplement books have a PrC named Marksman that's all about using blackpowder guns and whatnot. Also has a bunch of different stats for cannons, mortars, and all manner of firearms.

I know that if you don't have access to them, it makes my post kind of moot, but there's always that slim chance.

Fighter has access to Profession (Siege Engineer) and Craft (Siege Weapon). Which would, IMHO, apply to cannons as easily as trebuchets. And Profession (Sailor) too. Plus you'd have enough feats for some of the Point Blank Shot tree and also feats to benefit your hammer(s).

theres a gunslinger class here on the forums, it's good if you want to use pistols or rifles. I happen to be playing one and its a lot of fun.

I just posted a homebrew black powder thread here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=769356), though it's rough drafted and probably won't be finished for another few weeks (college getting in the way of things). You may be able to pick up some ideas :)
