We're taking advantage of this opportunity to fix some glitches in the system. For 1, Paladin has become a prestige class For 2, Bard has a combat style of sorts But the real issue is Fighter/Wizard Balance (isn't that a shocker) We hope to balance this issue by actually giving fighters a 10% bonus to experience, and Wizards a 10% penalty. That mechanic is pretty simple to adjudicate, and I think it's explain with a "fighter is simple/wizard is complex" point of view. Trouble is, I don't know how to deal with experience penalty/bonus with multiclassed characters... any thoughts? |
| Puca08-15-07, 03:00 PM | My recollection of previous editions is pretty fuzzy, but the old boxed sets with which I started required a different number of xp to advance as, say, a thief (rogue) as opposed to an elf (yes that was a class). I think it was like 1000 xp to gain your second-level as a thief and 4000 to gain your second-level as an elf. So, thats how Id do it. Like, in 3.5 it takes 4,000 xp to go from level 4 to level five, for both fighters and wizards. So you could set it up so it takes 3500 to level up in fighter and 4500 to level up in wizard. So, you focus not on the total number of xp, just on the number of xp to go from where they are right now to their next level, and apply the bonus/penalty based on the class in which they are leveling up. |
| abyssalmole08-15-07, 04:07 PM | so, at the point where they acheive that 3500xp, they have the option of gaining a level of fighter, at 4000 xp they have the option of gaining a level of anything (except wizard). at 4000 xp, should they be able to level as a fighter with extra xp? |
