Are there any classes that gain a mount earlier than level 5? Perhaps a class that specializes in mounted combat?

you could buy a warhorse at any level, given you have the money, and by the way, a warhorse is a mount.

oh yeah...if i were to buy a mount at level 1 (dont ask how), could i trade that in for a familiar?

what do you mean? as far as i know, only certain classes and maybe some prestige classes gain familiars, so i don't get what you are asking.

Druids get animal companions right away, of which you can choose a horse to serve as your mount.

A Druid's animal companion is the only thing that leaps to mind. Though, a significant 'class feature' of the aristocrat is his high starting wealth - and that could purchase a mount.

Make sure you have enough to buy two mounts later on. one evetually will die. Those sucker barely last.
