I just thought i'd share a cleric character concept that I think would be effective in combat but most of all fun to play. It's a cleric of st cuthbert who is in most respects much like what I imagine a southern baptist preacher to be like. You can all imagine the voice, lots of emotion, fire and brimstone. Lots of lines like "if you will not heed the word of Cuthbert you will heed the club of cuthbert"(in Living greyhawk both club and mace are his favored weapons) "can you feel it, I said can you feeeeel it, the wrath of the true god is about to be unleashed upon you like a great torrent of molten lava" any way you get the idea.

He will take concentration and diplomacy as skills and will intentionally leave out knowledge religion. He's only concerned about Cuthbert and totally ingorant about other faiths. At first he uses diplomacy to convert them and failing that he goes for the club.

He'll take martial weapon pro "great club" at first level along with power attack, at third he takes cleave and 6th level and above he takes extra smiting. Smiting is key for the character role-play and combat strategy wise. Enlarge person is important to make full use of the great club(2d8 dam while large) and brambles and spikes work great with the great club.

At seventh level with a smite and spiked greatclub while enlarged, with divine power he deals 2d8 +9str, 7smite, 7spikes average 31 with a +18 to hit (can power attack for up to 7)

Decent in combat and a blast out of combat

Awsome. I would also poit you towards two other feats you may really like. One is Cannel Spell, from PHB 2, which allows you to deliver a touch spell through your weapon rather than hand, at +1 Level. The other is the Initiate Feat of St. Cuthbert, form Races of Destiny I believe, which is not unlike a 3rd free domain, buy you get a few extra spells on your Cleric List, (not Domain spells), and a new Domain-like power. I believe it is Intimidate as a class skill.

I love the concept!

Fire and brimstone- literally.

I would also recommend the channel feat mentioned above.

In complete warrior, there's an exotic weapon called a "war maul" or somesuch. You might want to take that instead of the greatclub, since you'd need to spend a feat for either.

Glad you like it

I would love to see more people share thier character "concepts" as opposed to just min/maxing strategies based around classes. After all it is a roll playing game.

Every time I try, I get bombarded with all the things I ask specifically not for help with.
