While a NE cleric of Hextor is a reasonable villain how about a LN one? In most DnD sourcebooks evil gods have evil clerics yet several good aliogned deities seem to have clerics that are CN/LN in alignment. Imagine it now- a CN priestess of Lolth for example. How do you handle neutral clerics of evil gods in particular in your games? An oddity I might spring on my players in my next game is a temple to an opposed god with neutral clerics. A simplistic view of evil gods is often invloves human sacrifice, torture etc etc. However perhaps a LN temple of Hextor exists in a militaristic society or renegade Drow could form a CN community of Lolth worshippers. Other factions of their god might think they're heretics but would the god care and by the rules they still get spells. While people here love saying the Cleric is overpowered there are definate restrictions on their behaviour which is often overlooked or minimised. Also a rival church would probably love to get hold of the Cleric to convert them- or worse. In your campaigns as a DM/player how often do issues like this come up. In one 2nd ed game I had a LG crusader type priest who knew and seemed to get along in a civl maneer with a CE priest of a rival god. Occasionally they would meet and try and convert each other. The CE priest was to smart enough in an urban enviroment to not go around kidnapping NPCs or concocting wold plans of conquest etc. It was great the PC knew she was evil, knew where she lived, and yet couldn't do anything about it- she refused to fight and due to his LG alignment he couldn't really murder her. |

The Cleric of Torm and Cleric of Bane who are both LN would probably be more concered with rigid regimentation within the churches rather than being good or evil. They'd probably be more likely to argue that pikemen sheildwalls and archers make for better defensive capabilties than swordsmen sheildwall. |

It's a funny image. * = As long as his alignment remains LG no one can stop him from worshipping Nerull  |
