I'm planning on making the Artificer be on of the two primary arcane "caster" classes for a homebrew campaign setting that I'm working on. Only thing is that I want to get rid of their technological flavour, and change it to feel more like ritual magic.

Basically I want an artificer to perform big rituals in which they bind portions of a demons / angels / generic outter plane entity to the material plane, in the form of a physical inanimate (most of the time) object. Similar flavour to the Binder (the other arcane caster class).

So far the changes I'm think of are removing their Trapfinding, as well as changing their skill list around a bit. Can anybody else think of anything that could be changed to fit the new flavour more?

I think all you have to do is make it so that their "crafting" becomes rituals, and that they bind the outsiders into their items. This even creates a reason that they get the ability to create homonunculi: they're small bodies housing outsiders. Infusions, too, become a temporary binding of an outsider into some item.

This all creates a duality between the body method of the Binder and the non-body method of the artificier.

Nevermind, I misread your post.
