Gez 01-19-05, 07:32 AM	The dragon's favored class as mechanics go is Dragon. Their Dragon HD do not count for purpose of XP penalty when they get levels in other classes than Dragon. So a PC wyrmling (typically with between 3 and 8 HD, depending on species) would have no XP penalty if he were to become a first level something (as effectively, it's a multiclass). Now, favored class as in the class they prefer would be sorcerer. Their innate sorcerous levels stack with actual sorcerer levels for spellcasting purpose. Not with any other spellcasting class. A young gold dragon sorcerer 3 is actually a sorcerer 4 for all spellcasting purposes. (He's only considered sorcerer 3 for his familiar's abilities, though.) Upon becoming old enough to become adolescent, he'll get bumped to sorcerer 6 just by lying on his scaly butts and growing old. It's better for dragons to be active when they're still young. As they age, their LA grows, and their ECL grows even faster. It's better to get as many class levels as possible while a wyrmling. Then, just hibernate for a few decades and bam! you're epic. :D

Lycanthromancer 01-19-05, 10:43 AM	I would suggest having your DM (or you, if you're the DM) making a judgement call based on what your "monster" is similar to. Illithids, for example would have psion as their favored class (if you're using the EPH). Dragons could have several favored classes, depending on how old they are (thereby determining their natural abilities). Younger dragons could have the warrior classes as their favored non-monster class, as well as rogues (which would work especially well). When they grow older, their sorcerous abilities would open up Sorcerer, as well. Since Dragons are so well-rounded (as NPCs, not PCs) many Dragons can fit varying classes like a glove. Dragon Paladins, however, have a slight problem with the whole "Divine mount" thing, since they are far more powerful when not mounted, even in humanoid form (well, on second thought, perhaps not...). I, personally, would not suggest a Dragon as a PC character, if you use the monster advancement from Savage Species (or Dragon magazine). The skyrocketing ECL and LA will kill your effectiveness, especially if you have a vile bastard of a DM like the one I had with my baby gold. He screwed me over at every opportunity, just because I had a Dragon for a character (which was far underpowered compared to the other PCs, by the way).
Kuraito 01-19-05, 10:52 AM	considering that dragons get the best of everything as a race, if you choose to give them a favored class i'd make it either "Any" or i'd give them two. as it stands, i'd stick with the rules.
