A few questions about a monk build [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've been thinking I'd like to play a monk who uses a longspear. Specifically, I'd take the feat (I think it's in the Eberron campaign setting) which allows a monk to treat a longspear as a special monk weapon, thus allowing him to use it in a flurry. Here are my questions:

I'd like to have him specialize in sundering opponents' weapons and armor. I'm planning on using a spear with an adamantine head to bypass hardness, thus making it easier to sunder items. Has anyone tried a build like this before? Is it viable in combat? How effective is it?

Would a monk wielding a longspear still threaten squares immediately around him, due to his unarmed strike special ability?

What else might be useful for this sort of build, in terms of feats, equipment and skills? Improved Sunder for sure. Ki Strike and an adamantine head for the spear. Monk's Belts are always useful. Anything else you can recommend?

Thanks.

Yes, he still threatens squares around himself with his unarmed strike (He may make unarmed strikes with any part of his body. So, having his hands full doesn't interfere in the slightest). However, there is still a problem with your concept. You cannot make sunder attempts with a weapon that deals piercing damage, only with slashing or bludgening (PHB pg158). If you want to flurry at reach you won't be able to sunder. If you just want to use advanced combat manuevers with reach, try imp trip or disarm with the spiked chain.
