Sorcerors have slower spell progression than other full casters, few spells known, and very little in the way of class abilities, agreed?

What if sorcerors had an ability that affected it's multiclass/prestige class options?

Something along the lines of

"Innate Magic: Sorcerors do not need to study or train as much as wizards, so they may venture along other career paths without suffering significant loss to their spellcasting ability... for a while. Whenever a sorceror Multiclasses or takes a Prestige class, she may add the phrase "<CLASS> adds +1 to the character's existing sorceror class for the purposes of spells known and spells per day" to any non-arcane class she takes levels in. This ability may be applied a total of two times before the sorceror feels the reprecussions of his varied interests."

Obviously this would have to be worded more carefully than I have done so, but I thought it was a neat idea and would like to hear all your opinions, including the most broken way it could be used because, to me, that is the true measure of the silliness of any given idea ^_^;

Of course this wouldn't help LvL 20 sorcerors, but it is just an idea ^_^;

It's interesting, and I like it. I'm a multiclassing addict, and I've always preferred Sorcerers to Wizards, so I really like how that looks.

That being said, however, I don't think this is what the Sorcerer needs. Personally, I think just allowing the Sorc to use most of the feats/options that require prepared casting would be enough.

But since I like the idea, here's a better way to word it...

Innate Magic
The blood in a Sorcerer's veins is saturated with magic, giving him enhanced arcane power. His effective class level for determining spells per day, spells known, and caster level, is equal to his actual class level plus 2. This modifier can never bring his effective class level higher than his HD.

Would it stack with Practiced Spellcaster?

Wait. So I could go Sorcerer 1/Ranger19 and get full sorcerer spellcasting? Sign me up. :P

It looks like what he means is up to +2 caster levels, to a max of your hit dice, so a Sorcerer 1/Ranger 19 would cast as a 3rd level sorcerer. It looks like a half-potency version of the Practiced Spellcaster feat.

Actually, it would be far more potent than Practiced Spellcaster. This ability would also increase spells per day and spells known, which the feat doesn't.

It looks like a half-potency version of the Practiced Spellcaster feat.As LordPendragon says, this is alot better than Practiced Spellcaster.

Having said that, I think it would actually be fine.

Not to sure about the Ultimate Magus Thing as I thought I did specify Non Arcane Casting Classes.
I know the wording needs word, but that's why I submitted it to the board for scrutiny, and discussion ^_^
I'll probably be able to make a more in depth post later on, but for now other duties demand my attention.

Ok

So how about

Innate Magic
A Sorceror's magic is an innate expression of the arcane might flwoing through his body, and though it requires practice to maintain the growth of his skills, a sorceror is afforded some leeway as his power does not rely on heavy study as a wizard's does. A Sorceror multiclassing into a Non-Arcane Class continues to grow in power... for a while.
Twice in his career, a sorceror can gain additional Spells Per Day and Spells Known as if he had progressed in Sorceror levels normally. This benifit does not apply to Prestige Class levels that would already boost the sorceror's arcane casting (though any "dead" levels in said class could gain the benifit).
This bonus does not apply to any class levels or racial hit die the sorceror may have had prior to taking levels in the sorceror class.

Someone else really needs to word this. I'm bad at rulings ^_^;

But Basically:
Allows Sorceror's spellcasting ability to progress in classes that would normally not allow it to.
Can only gain the benifit twice.
Does not apply the racial hit dice.
Does not apply backwards (No spontaneously gaining the abiliy to cast as a thrid level sorceror :P)
Does not mesh with the wizard class.
Does not allow a Prestige Class to grant "+2 levels" for spell Casting

Hmm, any other loopholes?
