| SilentLucidity06-13-05, 10:24 PM | ok, we're starting off a 4th level rogue. We can have up to a +2 LA but would like to not go that high, if at all. Nothing evil is allowed per the DM but we're trying to find something different than the standard halfling or elven rogue with the good dex bonuses. Are there any decent "monster" races that can work for rogue or is it pretty much as limited as what it appears. I've been looking through some of the books and nothing is really hitting me in the face as just a kick butt starting race that would be just cool to play. |
| Verdaloth06-13-05, 10:33 PM | Try a skulk, they are cool, in races of destiny. |
| codexia06-13-05, 10:35 PM | Githzerai, from Monster Manual 1 :P |
| Paradisio06-13-05, 10:50 PM | Mongrelfolk (races of destiny), ugly and dumb, but have favored class rogue, a con bonus, lots of interesting bonuses and +4 sleight of hand. +0 LA as well. |
| Merryadocc06-14-05, 01:01 AM | Whisper Gnomes from Races of Stone are an excellent rogue race. +4 to Hide and Move Silently, and +2 to Spot and Listen. They are a small race with a land speed of 30 feet. They have alot of other nice racial features and are LA +0. :cheer: |
| Particle_Man06-14-05, 01:06 AM | For variety, Half-Orc. They lose on Int, but you really only need Tumble, Search, Open Locks and Disable Device which even the dumbest half-orc rogue can do. You get darkvision (good for negating concealment from darkness, and thus enabling sneak attacks). You are strong. Who needs weapon finesse? I just thought a strong, dumb thug might be a change of pace from the usual sneaky, cunning guy. |
| Epitaph06-14-05, 01:17 AM | be a female tiefling;the sexiest creature in the world. |
| Jell_Moo06-14-05, 01:25 AM | I second the Whisper Gnome as being the top notch Rogue race. The Neraphim from the Planar Handbook is also a really sweet choice. And of course, nothing wrong with a run of the mill Human. A Rogue never has enough skill points. |
| Twick the Gnome Thief06-14-05, 03:30 AM | gnomes just plain old gnomes I mean come on their great illusionists and thier small |
| Quirriff06-14-05, 03:38 AM | Human, The skill point bonus is an excelent plus for the rogue. Half-Elfs, have bonus' on quite a few rogue abilities (+1 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks, +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks). Or if you want a Monster few race there's Dromites (-2 str, -2 wis, +2 cha) (XPH & SRD) Small Size, +3 natural armor, Scent, Blind Fight, Energy resistance. And it's only +1 LA, I'd say it's a bargain. |
| thndraven06-14-05, 04:59 AM | Goblin ;) . they don't always have to be evil you know :P |
| CaoSlayer06-14-05, 05:19 AM | antropoid cat from Savage Species, +1 LA, I think that had +6 to dex, -2 to str and cha, small size. EDIT: goblins and kobolts also a good ones :) , nothing stops a goblin from being a nice guy. |
| JadeSpider964306-14-05, 05:35 AM | Kenku (MM3) make GREAT rogues, since you'll probably be flanking alot, they get some killer bonuses just for doing what you would be doing anyway, and a +0 LA to boot |
| Tonus06-14-05, 10:42 PM | I'm partial to kobold rogues myself. Darkvision, small size but 30' movement, very nice. True, their overall stat mods leave something to be desired, but it's all the more reason to gloat when you actually *succeeed* in your plans for world domination... |
