| animematt10-08-06, 02:40 PM | ok, i am in a bit of a predictament.... I made a cleric, but i am using a greek god from Deitys and demigods....i think artimis or aphrodite or something.... Now, the DM won't let me come from a magical world, so i will have to acquire magical items from elsewhere. But i kind of want to stay accurate to the greek history (weapons etc). so I am thinking of using a longspear/spear and a shortsword. But i know that greek warriors also used shields with their spears.... So, should i try to convince the DM to let me come from a world that has magic? If so, any ideas of what magic weapons/armor/items i should have (level 8) kind of an annoyign thread, but i havent played a cleric in a long time. |
| frasmage10-08-06, 04:56 PM | I would go for domains that are fitting for your deities hermes - celerity, community, planning baccus - gluttony, wealth, sloth zeus - storm, nobility, glory etc. etc. I won't go through all the gods because I will confuse myself, but thats sorta what you should do for a greek priest |
| Grey_Mage10-08-06, 05:15 PM | Your a Greek Priest not a Greek Warrior. You can use the shotsword and spear if you like... but the short sword, especially curved ones *scimitars in DND* would be more likely. Of course... to be even more true to the actual Greek Priesthoods almost all of them would be better represented by the cloistered cleric and the traditional cleric. |

I am thinking of still going Med. armored, but still not sure of what weapon. THe heavy mace is always a nice simple weapon. But since i am choosing Aphrodite (it goes a long with a part of the campaign and soem other characters) who's favored weapon is a dagger. I am wondering of soem feats to help make the dagger a better weapon. |
| mhacdebhandia10-08-06, 08:08 PM | The cloistered cleric (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/unearthedCoreClass.html#cloistered-cleric) is a less warriorlike adaptation of the cleric class found in Unearthed Arcana. |
| animematt10-08-06, 09:49 PM | ah i see. THank you. But i think i wanna stay with the traditional type cleric. Kind of a protector type i guess. Mainly buffing the other characters, and healing. But dealing some good damage with weapons and soem good spells when needed. i think i will go with a heavy mace. It is one of the better simple weapons. |
| Tequila_Sunrise10-08-06, 09:59 PM | What do you mean you can't convince your DM to let you come from a magical world? You mean you want your character to come from a world other than the DM's campaign setting? And why doesn't your DM want you to have magic items? Under the standard rules, a character of your level HAS to have magic items. If your DM is running a low/no magic game, then don't try to finagle any magic items out of him because it's just against the campaign. |
| scottt10-08-06, 10:08 PM | I play in a greek campaign (it's low magic not no magic) A good mapping with Pelor is Apollo (healing, sun). If you want to craft magic arms and armour then think about Hephaestus (creation, artifice). If you are female then Artemis can be fun, not sure what her domains would be (plant?, nobility?) Why no magic??? Get him to read some greek mythology. |

And he says that the world i come from wont have magic (esencially the real world). |
| Tequila_Sunrise10-09-06, 12:07 AM | well, since i am usign greek gods, i am going to come from a different world (shifted there from my god or soemthing). And he says that the world i come from wont have magic (esencially the real world). I see. Well if you have faith in your DM's ability, he'll find a way of giving you magic items after your characters shifts. If you don't have faith in his skills as a DM, maybe have a little chat with him in which you politely ensure that he knows that characters in standard d&d games NEED magic items. Or maybe this whole issue has come up because he's trying to deterr you from this whole 'shifting from the real world' idea. If so, restricting you from magical items is a perfectly viable (if a bit underhanded) way of deterring you from bringing this bit of wrongness (as he would see it) into his campaign world. |

They told the warriors where to go, and who to fight, maybe even how- but they didnt swing many swords themselves. The idea of a priestess of Aphrodite in half plate is so ludicrous I cant help but laugh. Ares might have had some warrior priests, chaplins if you will, but Ive yet to come accross any mention of them in greek mythos. *shrugs* Play as you will of course. |
| Far_Traveler10-09-06, 06:54 AM | Your a Cleric of APHRODIETE! You know, root of Aphrodisiac? Most of the time you'd probably want to go without CLOTHES to 'honor your god'! But, moving on, domains would probably be along the lines of healing, good, maybe throw in trickery if favored weapon is dagger, chaos? Those are just the core ones, you could do better |
