| Mo04-13-06, 03:52 AM | My Dm said that he wnats one PC to be a dread necromancer one to be a paladin to become a blackguard and one bard, who plays harmonica. The other people said i should be the bard. I was wonderign where You'd take it. I was thinking fighting with one knife and doing raptor school and cloak and dagger fighter would be fun. |
| CaoSlayer04-13-06, 05:05 AM | Althrough I love to play as bards, I would hate to play a DMīs character. seems he have in mind having the bard as a comic relieve character and no as a hero. |
| Nerf_Samurai04-13-06, 05:51 AM | First off, I think a party with a blackguard, a paladin, and a dread necromancer is doomed to destroy itself. Second, I agree with CaoSlayer- the bard is for comic relief. I'd focus on being as dexderous and devious a combatant as possible. Any thing you can find to make that bard more elusive, do it. Invest in shadowed armor as soon as you can. Get as many magic items that increase you AC as you can afford. Get feats like Improved Trip and Improved Disarm, and check in Complete Warrior for prestige classes like Invisible Blade or Master Thrower to capitalize on your dexterity in combat. |
| Mo04-13-06, 01:22 PM | somewhere on the boards I saw a PrC for goblins called Knife Fighter. Your knife was considered a wounding weapon and you got dodgey stuff. I thought that would be very cool, can't find the PrC though. |
| Ziggaraut04-13-06, 04:04 PM | Nerf_Samurai, you misread a bit there. The paladin would become a blackguard, not two different characters. I would suggest doing something about that dm. If he is dictating that closely what you guys are going to be he isn't a very good dm. Finally, only a three man party is doomed to lose anyway, especuially if none of them can heal. |

| Mitchell04-14-06, 02:28 AM | If my DM were to tell us (I assume there will be other players) that we all had to be fighters, I would think that my DM had a plan. If they told us that we all had to be a psionic class, I would think that they had a plan. If they told us that we could only be a core class, I would accept that they were well within their rights. If they told us that we would have to play a certain class, and that we had to have certain skills, and that we had to use certain weapons, I would think that they had crossed the line. It's one thing to have a "theme" game or to place limits on what could be chosen regarding race, class, and/or prestige class, but it's quite another for one to come out and tell you what your character will be because they said so. Instead of spending the time and energy trying to work up your bard, soon to be fallen paladin, and dread necromancer, why don't you all go to him and just let him tell you his story without you actually having to pretend that you are playing a game? :) |
| Ralphius_Maximus04-14-06, 03:07 AM | There are plenty of ways to play an evil bard well. Personally, I think that making a combat character out of him (or her) is a waste. The first thought that comes to mind would be a manipulator. Massive bluff and diplomacy are always your friends. Perhaps take it in the direction of the Assassin. While you rarely enter combat, you are very adept at killing someone quietly and withouth warning. This would require hide and move silently to be added to the skill list. On the other hand, you could make a hell of an evil spellcaster out of a bard, especially if you went for one of the high-powered PrC's, such as Seeker of the song or Sublime chord. Hunt through the spell list open to you and think about the possibilities. Quite frnkly, I think the last thing you want to do is make a second rate fighter in this situation. Leave it up to the Blackguard. It's what he's there for. |
| Vaelan04-14-06, 03:13 AM | I was wonderign where You'd take it. I'd make the Bard a melee beast, mostly because I think your DM isn't expecting it. Go with Two-Weapon Fighting and use Arcane Strike and Snowflake Wardance constantly. The only time you wouldn't be using your spell slots for Arcane Strike is when you're casting Displacement, Haste, and possibly Bladeweave. |
| gorfnad the shiznit04-14-06, 03:55 AM | Evil Bard...lets see here... Bard 7 (harbringer variant from dragon magazine 337 or 339?...i'll get back to you on that) / Mindbender 1 / Ur-priest 2 / Sublime Chord 2 / Mystic Theurge 8 You get bardic music/knowledge, 9 level sorc/wiz spell, 9th level cleric spells, rebuke undead, and many other nice abilities. Granted this is a caster bard build and not a melee bard...but still an option for you. |
