| The_Fan01-05-04, 10:26 PM | I've decided to compile a list of all the official 20-level base classes, including variants. Variant classes (marked with a * after base class) generally do not allow multiclassing with the class they're based on or each other, but levels in the variant generally count as levels in the base class for most feat or prestige class purposes, alignment and other factors allowing. Entries give the class name, a brief description, and where to find it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barbarian: Untamed warrior. (PHB, p24) Bard: Master of lore and songs.(PHB, p26) Cleric: Classic divine champion.(PHB, p30) *Ancestral Speaker: Draws power from the spirits of his forebears.(Dragon #311, p47) *Arcane Disciple: Merges the arcane and the divine.(Dragon #311, p49) *Aspirant: Seeker of the divine, wishes to become a god himself.(Dragon #311, p49) *Benevolent: Cleric dedicated to aiding those in need.(Dragon #311,p50) *Crusader: Fighter of his church's foes.(Dragon #311,p50) *Evangelist: Spontaneous-casting preadcher for his god.(Dragon #311, p52) *Deathwalker: Master of the undead.(Dragon #312, p30) *Fleshcrafter: Crafter of once-living constructs.(Dragon #312, p32) *Soul Reaper: Consumer of souls.(Dragon #312, p34) *Note: I grouped these three together because they are collectively known as "dark magi." Similar to wizards/sorcerers, but different enough to warrant their own entry. Druid: Divine protector of the wilderness.(PHB, p33) *Wild Reaper: Dispassionate harvesters of life.(Dragon #311, p55) *Wind Walker: Disciples of the air.(Dragon #311, p57) *Metal Master: Dwellers in caves and mines.(Dragon #311, p59) *Winter Warden: Defender of the ice and snow.(Dragon #311, p60) Favored Soul: Chosen of champion of a god.(MiniHB, p??) (Dragon #110, p36) *Knight: Powerful mounted tank. (Dragon #110, p36) *Pugilist: Non-monk unarmed fighter. (Dragon #110, p37) *Shieldbearer: Warrior who focuses on defense and heavy armor.(Dragon #110, p38) *Survivalist: Reluctant wilderness warrior. (note: differs from ranger in that he wishes to conquer nature) (Dragon #110, p38) *Targeteer: Sharpshooting master of ranged combat. (Dragon #110, p38) Healer: Favored of the unicorns, sworn to heal and protect.(MiniHB, p??) (Dragonlance, p47) Monk: Mystical unarmed warrior.(PHB, p39) *Cobra Strike: Sinuous and agile style.(Dragon #110, p42) *Denying Stance: Defensive style, focusing on grappling and disarming.(Dragon #110, p43) *Hand and Foot: Classic hard style.(Dragon #110, p43) *Invisible Eye: Blind-fighting style.(Dragon #110, p43) *Overwhelming Attack: All-out attack style.(Dragon #110, p44) *Passive Way: Redirecting your opponent's force tai-chi style.(Dragon #110, p44) *Sleeping Tiger: Smooth and powerful style.(Dragon #110, p44) *Undying Way: Style focusing on patience and toughness.(Dragon #110, p44) *Holy Monk: A particularly devout monk.(Dragon #110, p45) *Hunter Monk: Hunter of his order's enemies.(Dragon #110, p45) *Martial Monk: Less philosophy, more fighting!(Dragon #110, p45) *Raging Monk: Monk who focuses his anger.(Dragon #110, p45) *Steadfast Monk: Sacrifices mobility for durability.(Dragon #110, p45) *Vigilant Monk: Opens her mind to the world to fight chaos.(Dragon #110, p45) Noble: A born ruler who inspires his followers and deals in favors.(Dragonlance, p50) Paladin: Lawful Good champion of justice.(PHB, p43) *Sentinel: Neutral Good protector of the innocent.(Dragon #310, p50) *Avenger: Chaotic Good champion of the oppressed.(Dragon #310, p49) *Enforcer: Lawful Neutral enforcer of the law.(Dragon #310, p53) *Incarnate: True Neutral elemental guardian.(Dragon #310, p52) *Anarch: Chaotic Neutral rebel without a cause.(Dragon #310, p47) *Despot: Lawful Evil dominator of the weak.(Dragon #312, p23) *Corrupter: Neutral Evil defiler of all that is good.(Dragon #312, p24) *Anti-Paladin: Chaotic Evil destroyer of innocents.(Dragon #312, p20) *Paladin (Spell-less): Variant for non-casters. The Complete Warrior version is more recent, being a 3.5 offering, but some prefer the OA version, so included them both. Sha'ir: Arabic-styled master of elemental djinn.(Dragon #315, p79) Shaman: Speaker to the spirits.(OA, p22) Shugenja: Noble elemental priests.(OA, p24) Sohei: Temple-defending whirlwind of carnage.(OA, p27) Sorcerer: Charismatic slinger of spells.(PHB, p51) Swashbuckler: Daring, lightly-armored melee master.(CW, p11) War Wizard: Destructive wielder of battlefield magic. Wizard: Studious magic-user, with the motto of "be prepared."(PHB, p55) Wu Jen: Secretive master of magic and taboos.(OA, p30) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- *whew!* Anyway, now that that's over with, feel free to add any I might have missed. Official WotC material only though, which is why OA is in here, but the Rokugan sourcebook isn't. D&D compatible only, so nothing from CoC or d20 Modern. Dragon is obviously a primary source for these, so if there were any in earlier issues of Dragon, please fill me in. Oh, and if you have the miniatures handbook, please give me the page references for the Favored Soul, Marshall, and Healer. Thanks. Most recent edits: Added the War Wizard from the MiniHB. Posted. Added the Urban Ranger. Separated wizard and sorcerer to be more consistant. Added Yogi Mystic (oriental psion), and spell-free Paladin and Ranger. More to come. Abbreviation reference: PHB = Player's Handbook (3.5) DMG = Dungeon Master's Guide (3.5) OA = Oriental Adventures CW = Complete Warrior PsiHB = Psionics Handbook (3.0, soon to be updated) MiniHB = Miniatures Handbook |
| Finwe01-05-04, 11:58 PM | I think the psywar and hexblade should be in the same class, as "supernatural warriors" or seomthing like that. |
| TaisharMalkier01-06-04, 05:01 AM | Zug Zug. Dragonlance book has a couple. Mystics (Spontaneous casting cleric) and Noble (umm, hard to describe, semi melee type class). Prolly some of the other official variant books do too. Cheers |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 05:06 AM | Thanks. It's too early for me to remember, is Dragonlance WotC published? If so, can you write me a brief description that distinguishes them from the other listed classes, and provide a page reference? I'll add those in if you can get that to me. Another question...should I put this in the Repository? It seems pretty useful. |
| BenjCano01-06-04, 05:26 AM | The Dragonlance Mystics (indeed published by Wizards of the Coast) receive their divine power from within, not without, through power of heart rather than the gods. They receive less versatility than standard clerics, but make up for this with the ability to spontaneously cast any spell they know (think of them as a divine sorcerer with a single domain). The Noble is a non-magical support class with access to a great variety of skills, the ability to inspire allies almost as well as a bard, and the ability to call in favors from their allies. |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 10:38 AM | Thanks. I'll condense that into a one-sentance entry and put it in, then check the book in the store for the page references. Just to be thorough, are those the only new classes in Dragonlance? Edit: Nevermind, read it in the store. Page numbers edited now. Just need the mini handbook numbers. |
| Shadowfoot01-06-04, 12:41 PM | Check the Prestige Class Compendium on the PrC Boards. At the end of post three is a list of all the WotC-published classes. |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 04:39 PM | Curse you shadowfoot! Always doing things better than me! But you don't have descriptions, so nyah nyah! Er...ahem, anyways. I don't need the epic or monster classes, but the varient psions and psychic warriors are good. I'll see if I can track down those dragon issues, then put them in here. |
| danielinthewolvesden01-06-04, 05:06 PM | Dragon 110 ?!  I'd also put FS & Healer with the Clerics. In fact the FS is very close to the Evangalist. Are we sure it isn't a cleric "varient"? There is also another Arcanist in the Mini-handbook- with a name something like "war-wizard"? Anyway, it is a specialized arcanist class. |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 05:27 PM | Thank you. I forgot about the War-Wizard. Will add. I didn't put the Healer and Favored Soul under Cleric because, while they are similar to clerics, the ones I've put under it as variants ARE clerics. In fact, once you take a level in one of the variant cleric classes or the base cleric class, you can't take a level in any other. You could still multiclass the Cleric/Favored Soul. It'd be a bad idea, but by the rules you can still do it. And yes, Dragon 310 had a LOT of stuff in it. |
| Dave100101-06-04, 05:27 PM | hey, where's the Inventor core class? I don't see it on this list? Oh, but some day you will! :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 05:34 PM | I do believe that Eberron is introducing an Engineer class, which I will post as soon as the book comes out. |
| Raven Dark01-06-04, 07:37 PM | Your list is way too big. "Core" Classes are those found only in the Player's Handbook. What your list is, is a compilation of Classes. Please don't get Core and non-Core material confused. |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 07:38 PM | In this context, Core means a class that can be taken a full 20 levels and you don't have to qualify for it. I guess "base" would probably be a better term, but core is the one that has stuck. |

Are you confused? |
| Haldrik01-06-04, 09:46 PM | Wizard: Studious magic-user, with the motto of "be prepared."(PHB, p55) Why not list the school specialists under Wizard? |
| The_Fan01-06-04, 11:11 PM | Perhaps a tad TOO specialized there, because there are no special rules for them. The variant fighters and clerics all have special rules. |
| Haldrik01-06-04, 11:24 PM | Perhaps a tad TOO specialized there, because there are no special rules for them. The variant fighters and clerics all have special rules. Just for the sake of itemizing the variety. |
| Dunelord01-14-04, 07:48 AM | Originally posted by Raven Dark Your list is way too big. "Core" Classes are those found only in the Player's Handbook. What your list is, is a compilation of Classes. Please don't get Core and non-Core material confused. You are mistaken. A Core class is any class that has all 20 levels (could be taken into epic levels I suppose) and has no entry requirements. Dragon # 310, page 33 regarding the Specialist Fighters "The classes presented here are core classes, meaning they have no entry requirments and advance through 20 levels." The term core class is not definded in the DMG or PhB to the best of my knowledge. If anyone knows some place else the term is defined please share. |
| Dunelord01-14-04, 08:09 AM | In the Kingdoms of Kalamar book their are the Basiran Dancer page 35, Brigand page 39, Gladiator page 40, Infiltrator page 43, Shaman page 45, and Spellsinger page 49. Just for the record, it is an official book by WoTC and I don't think it gets enough attention. In Ghostwalk you have the Eidolon page 16 and the Eidoloncer page 17. You could argue that these aren't really Core classes because you have to be dead (an entry requirement) to take them. But they are all 20 levels. In the DMG there are the Adept page 107, Aristocrat page108, Commoner page108, Expert page 109, and the Warrior page 110. You might want to include the Various Psion and Specialist Wizard Classes. I would just like to see them listed in a full list. |
| Aluroon01-22-04, 07:53 PM | Can i get the stats on the warwizard posted somewhere, i have been looking for a wizard like char with some combat abillity that forfites some of his spell casting abillity- might this be it? thanks in advance for any help |

But you can find it in the Miniatures Handbook. |
| RhoxandRoll01-23-04, 05:53 PM | I think you mean "310" and not "110" in the Dragon Articles. |
