Joseph_Silver 01-31-07, 10:09 PM	Hey guys... I was wondering if you knew of gish (fighter/mages) other than the ones listed here. Here are the ones I know of: 1. Rand al'Thor - The vast majority of male channelers in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time are fighter/mages. The Asha'man, for example, are taught how to wield a sword and how to channel the One Power. 2. Gilthanas - Laurana's brother in Dragonlance. 3. Jarlaxle - He's a fighter/mage/thief. Unfortunately, his stats don't translate well to 3.5. Who else is a gish?

Chimaera2000 01-31-07, 11:10 PM	As I'm sure that many Lord of the Rings fans will tell you, Gandalf would probably be better suited as a high-CR outsider than as a class-leveled character. D & D magic doesn't translate very well to Middle Earth, and wizards there are actually a demigod-level race named the Maiar. Who knows, he might even have divine rank 0.

Mitchell 01-31-07, 11:46 PM	Maybe Brand, from Zelazny's original Amber series, and then Merlin in the second series. You could possibly throw Bleys in there. Even though his magical/psionic talents were never really displayed, it was made clear that the redheads were the most magically talented. It is hard to define with certainty, though. Most magic isn't as obvious as the DnD system, and any of the royal Amberites could qualify on the strengths of their dimensional travel powers alone. It doesn't have to be about throwing fireballs.

The_Shaman 02-01-07, 08:02 AM	LotR is indeed different... but given the magical nature of the elves in Tolkien's books, some of them might be called "gish"es. I wonder if that's what inspired the elven class in earlier editions.

Belgarion from The Belgariad books Sparhawk and company from The Elenium books numerous characters from the Deathgate Cycle books Brom from Eragon. Eragon from Eragon. The skinny elf chick from Eragon. Vivian Hellstrom from Beyond the Blue Moon and of course the cheesy remake of the classic Githyanki
