| Troll-Magus07-19-04, 03:00 PM | Browsing the unofficial D&D Online discussion board I came across a little tidbit that perhaps some of you might find interesting. A comment by a Turbine designer that used to work for WOTC on D&D 3.0 development. Once upon a time it was even worse. Revealing something about my history, back when I was working in Wizard's RPG department, there was a point during the development of D&D 3.0 when druids actually were allowed to have 2 HD of animal companions per level.... So one day Tweet sits us down for a 3rd level combat playtest and asks what we're playing. And the four players pipe in "Bears!" Jonathan looks confused, as we reveal that we each have 6 HD brown bear ready to kick butt... with a 3rd level druid pet in tow. Needless to say, the bear was a better tank than any 3rd level fighter could be. Plus he brought his own healer and buffer. And thus druids were nerfed even before 3.0 launched.
