OK so after the advice that ive gotten so far ive decided to abandon the spellthief/shadowdancer. what im looking for now is a character who can basically strike from the shadows- and i mean that in a literal sense i want some kind of shadowplane shifting thing going here- doesnt have to do alot of hp damage i was thinking about spending buttloads of money on some kind of strength or con sapping weapon, and then vanish right back into the shadows before im noticed. what should i shoot for?? race? class? prestige? or just full on one race one class thats it?? preciate everybody being so patient. yep.

Check out Unapproachable East. The Shadowwalker template and the Teflammar Shadowlord PrC (think a shadowdancer/assassin hybrid) can be very good for you. A different version of the entire concept is the Crinti Shadow Marauder from Shining South - as an added bonus, the book also has some nice weapon enhancements for you, hehe.

As a race, whisper gnome or halfling can be okay if you don't worry about doing a lot of HP damage. Other than that, human or elf can work out, although a shadowwalker elf is not a good combo imo.

I'd recommend the whisper gnome, as for a weapon, you might want to consider a cursespewing weapon from the book of vile darkness, I had a character with a pair a +1 vicious cursespewing shotels who did really well.

Classes I can't think of anything off the top of my head, maybe the shadowcaster from tome of magic would help you out. (It's been a while since I've looked at the class so I apologize if it's completely off). Even if shadowcaster does'nt work for you, I'm sure some of the Prcs in the shadowcaster section might prove useful to you. (You also might consider the dark template for your race, It's only level adj of 1)

Good luck

is there a way to give them darkvision and the ability to cast darkness?? cuz im thinkin if im in a tavern or something and stuff goes out of control i want to be able to snuff out some main light sources to give myself some shadow but im still gonna need to be able to see. somebody also told me something about ninjas being able to planeshift.

Well, for darkness and darkvision, you might want to check tieflings - or cast spells. As for ninjas, I presume you mean the CAdv version. It can go invisible or (much later) ethereal, but iirc not planeshift. That tends to be a racial ability (githzerai, githyanki, some outsiders) or a powerful spell.

If you can, check the books we've proposed. I've heard very good things about the dark template, and I find the UE stuff quite nice.
