Lots of people complains about the actual fighter, it is a good class but the lack of anything special about him makes a shallow class compared with others.
This have cause the aparition of lots of revision of the class to the point that ever Wizards have try to revise fighter in the tome of nine swords.

Here you have yet another revision of the fighter, it is the same but with one change:

Let the fighter change this bonus feats

The idea it is to make the fighter able to use and master any fighting style and not in the actual static way but in a wizard alike way were a fighter can suit himself with the best fighting style for the task.

The mayor idea it is that, now you have to decide how and when change the feats.

My best aproximation would be instead of free access to every feat printed every day, to have the fighter learn (being to learn a feat, being able to select it) the feats in the same way a wizard learn a spell. A wizard can learn a spell either by leveling up, either by buying a scroll of the spell or by learning the spell by someone else spellbook. In last place a wizard can develop his own spell with time and dedication.

A fighter with swampable feats should be able to learn new feats by all the same means, that is he would learn new feats every level or being able to learn it by reading a fighter´s manual or in last place with the help of someone who have mastered the feat.

It is required some system to price how much costs to learn a feat and if is needed some kind of new skill equivalent to spellcraft, something like Tactics o Swordmanship or ever use BAB as if were a skill. Of course to learn a feat he must have already all the prerequisites.

The moment to change the feats must be once per day, I recomend to do it ala wizard and require a fighter to retrain every morning to keep and change the feats. I would recomend to include the condition that for a fighter being able to retrain a feat, he must have enought space and the equipment required, a fighter shouldnt be able to select an Exotic weapon proficiency without having access to the feat. It is posible to rule that isnt needed any retrain to keep the feats that arent changed or create a feat like spellmastery for keeping or selecting feats without the chance to retrain it.
Additionally a fighter could left open feats for retraining them later on the day.

Remember that you only can use fighter feats with the bonus feats. Also every other feat gained with levels or other classes cant be swamped.

Finally the only trouble with this system are prestige classes or every regular feats where you must use your fighter feats for the prerequisites. The solution I recomend it is to lock the feats, that it is if you use your fighter feats for being able to enter a prc earlier or getting a regular feat then you cant swamp those fighter feats unless if in the future you use your regular feats for the prerequisites.

Example: Blackwing it is a Fighter 4/ Blackguard 1;
For being a blackguard he must have power attack and improved sunder, Blackwing took combat expertise and Iron will as this level 1 and level 3 feats, so for entering the prc he locked the level 1 and 2 fighter feats as improved sunder and power attack and being unnable to change them. having still one free fighter feat; Later when he becomes a fighter 4/blackguard 2, he gain a regular feat and he decides to take power attack, so he now have two free fighter feats to swamp and improved sunder locked.

------------

What it is your opinion about this revision?
Would you use it in your game?
What changes will you do? How much would you price the learning of a new feat?
Do you thing this change will bring the fighter on the power level of other classes including spellcasters (okey, spellcasters save CoDzilla)?

It is a diferent thing.

I have done this revision also with the idea of being 100% compatible with actual material, including NPCs from adventures modules since in a single day a regular fighter it is the same than a "versatile" fighter.
