| Aishar11-18-05, 01:50 PM | I need help in building a prestige class which fits for the idea of a spy (like the Spymaster PrC from Complete Adventurer) but that is built for arcane spellcasters - wizards and sorcerers. The PrC's abilities should be based on spellcasting, not skills or sneak attack. And I want something more focused on spying, so the Arcane Trickster is not good enough for this one... If anyone read about something like that, please write in what book, and if otherwise, any help considering optional class abilities is also highly welcome. Thanks in advance, Aishar. |

You've got a cross between James Bond (sans the amount of trouble and destruction he causes) and someone who can use magic to travel unrecognized through awkward areas and learn your secrets. Spell-wise, you have a few areas of focus. Divinations (primarily the clairvoyance and scrying type, rather than the contact other plane type). Enough illusion and transmutation to enable you to move around easily and unobserved/unrecognized. Enchantments to get people to tell you what you want to know or do what you want. Class abilities would tend to include things such as the ability to pierce nondetection and even Mindblank eventually. Enhanced access to Detect Thoughts, Alter Self, and similar low-level spells; with constant fast use and higher DCs (Detect Thoughts is very nice, except that it has a poor save DC after a while). Comprehend Languages, Tongues, similar things. I think the core class ability needs to be some sort of bonus to penetrating anti-divination effects. Both in terms of making it harder for the subject of Scrying and similar to resist, and in terms of bypassing various defenses that make Scrying not work right, such as False Vision and the mighty Mind Blank. |
