| Eldergias07-26-06, 11:13 AM | Hello all, One of my friends will be starting a new campaign soon that will be from 1st level to level 21+. I am planning on being a druid (I like wild shape, spells, decent fighter, and support ability). This will be my second non-one-shot D&D game. My first I was a paladin who was slain by a dragon in the first adventure (lots of fun there right?). I would like some experienced opinions on Druids with what feats, variants, prestiege classes, weapons, armor, and magic items one should shoot for to become a powerful high-level druid. Even though I am fairly new to D&D I know there are many roads a character can take to power, so I am sure there are many options, but I could really use some help figureing those options out. So far the only realy concrete things I have heard from these boards and friends have been: 1. Wildshape is better than shapeshifting for higherlevels 2. Druid multiclassing or prestiege-classing is a bad idea 3. If I don't get natural spell feat I am a moron The setting for the adventure is on a plane with beings from every plane. This plane has been sealed off from all other planes and no beings can get in or out. All summonings that require beings from other planes pull the beings from that plane that are already here. Any and all constructive help would be more than welcome! |

Con because Wild Shape is based on Alternate Form (MM) and you keep your own Hit Points (check out errata for both MM AND PHB). Wis because you want to cast as many spells as possible. Dex can be a tricky area as you "want" some AC, but I would say that every point you put in Dex over 2, you will regret later on. First off you will be looking at Hide armour and a large wooden Shield, so your AC will be pants but you are NOT a Melee fighter, so avoid melee combat like the plague! (at least until you can Wild Shape, and ideally not until lvl 8 when you can Shape into Large stuff like Brown Bears). It's tempting to pump your Dex for ranged combat, but this will depend on your Race as Druids don't get many ranged weapon options from their Class, but I would avoid this too. You will be casting either Summon Nature's Ally spells or Buffs for other party members (again at least until you can Shape into something decent). I think Summoners are great. Summon Nature's ally can make some serious impact on combat when 3 Dire Bats or Black Bears turn up! As far as races go, everyone has there own opinion! I like Gnomes as being small helps with AC and the Con boost is perfect for Wild Shape. Feats are hard to come by for Druids so I use Spell Focus Conj. and Augment Summoning, and then Natural Spell!!. If your DM is totally mad, you may get away with Greenbound Summoning (horribly broken). |
