Nice to meet you!
could you help me?
Well, how could I say that...
To start with, I would start by 'creating' classes Defense Related.
No, not the armed type. No, not the armored type.
The spellcasting type.
Imagine someone with no armors, no shields, no weapons, no combat skill, no violence possible (to me, in my 'Campaign', that's a 'power', a gift, from an Superior-OverPower ). Only Spell of no-harm-to-anyone...
Imagine a Field (I call it a Trascendental Field of Defense) capable of helding away any kind of harm (psionic phisic magic sacred of whatever). The field can be projected, partially or totally, onto anyone our 'hero' wishes to protect... the power of the defense should not be absolute, but my mind falters... does the power require a wisdom check per round, or some skillCheck...? has the check to be adjusted by the difference in experience levels between enemy and hero?
I know one thing: at 20th level our hero should be allowed Trascendental Status: immateriality to everything and everyone, levitating, flying, bypassing stones liquids and all that is material, and ethereal astral or whatever... a living hologram, if you read my mind ^_^ free in the truer sense. Obliged to make no harm to anything or anyone.

I would greatly like your opinion, gentlefolks.

ps: excuse my poor (rusted) English...

Book of Exalted deeds.

Vow of Nonviloence:
Feat: requires Sacred vow (requires really good alignment)
benefit: Spell Dc for spells that you cast/other special abilities that you use isincrease by +4 if spell does not deal damage (abilities damage is porohibited from the bonus) save nonlethal is allowed, no bestow negative levels, or cause death.
Mostly adb=juration, enchantment, illusion (not phantasmal killer though), and other spells that follow guidelines. It doesn't stack with spell focus/overlaps spell focus for those type of spells.
Special: you must not harm monstrous humsniod/humaniods (nonlethal allowed).
Also your purity so great any ally that slays a helpless/dfenseless foe within 120 feet of feels great remorse causing a -1 morale penalty on hid attack rolls duration 1 hour/level. Commulative if first duration doesn't end yet. Each adds -1 penalty.
You ask yoiur allies tto give you an oath that helpless foe will not be slain. You may ask a defeated creature to give you an oath of surrender or noninterference in echange for its life.
If the creature breaks the vow to you, then your allies may deal with creature with no penalty.

Another feat: subdualing strike:General feat
no penakty to strike a weapon to deal nonlethal damage (-4 penalty usually)

Nonlethal substitution: metamagic
Prequisite: know arcane 5 rank, any other metamagic feat
choose an energy type. You can modiufy a s[ell wit that energy to deal nonlethal instead of lethal.
Use the same spell slot as normal modified with others of course.

Those should help you as feats.

I would have it be a wisdom-based check made every round, with adjment done with the difference between levels.

Possibly the check could be made smaller as the character grew in levels, or something like that.

Just so theres a little more clarity (and people don't start offering up Hawaiian ideas). You would be looking for the Pacifist or "a pacifistic, no-attack-not-be-attacked spellcasting guy."

Also, as long as your are contributing to a party thats on the giving end of pain (or recieving end), you will most likely be attacked. You'd require some form of near constant Sanctuary spell.

Thank you very much, all this goes in the right direction...
BUT! For example,
A 'Subdualing strike' would require 'our fellow' to hit, even if it would be considered (by others) nearly a joke... I do not think it possible...
For the metamagic 'nonlethal substitution', what could it be, 'nonlethal'? Magic or weapon, a blow is a blow, 'our fellow' "could not/should not" do that...

thank you for your kind effort, I do appreciate it!

Yes, I was thinking something like that, but we'll see. Let's build 'him' together post by post.
BTW...
(if an enemy attacks), this power seems soft compared to the seemingly neverending bloodlust... Say him a crazed barbarian in full rage... how many rounds could we think 'our' could survive? I was thinking to lend N rounds of Free (automatic) 'Trascendental Defense' proficiency...
Mind it, I do not wish for a 'nothing can kill me' type...
I search for a nearly balanced 'I-Do-Trascend-It' class: "I look, I see, I try to protect"...
Thank you :D

huh?
If I understand it, I say I'm trying to build a new class, as the Pacifist I remember (er, do I remember? ) did not hit me :D for its similarities to what I'm searching for... A pacifist is not a pacific fellow, as I could put it ;)
Also, as long as your are contributing to a party thats on the giving end of pain (or recieving end), you will most likely be attacked. You'd require some form of near constant Sanctuary spell.
I thought it, but Sanctuary can be dispelled (as far as I remember ...  )... It's not exactly what I'm looking for...
the effect, I see by the other side of the coin, is similar... the attacker is not subject to a penalty (difference by level) to its saving throw... Sanctuary is a 1st level spell...
So I thought of the power I wrote of earler...
to use a Sanctuary-like Power more akin to Sanctuary, you might want to add something...
Thanks in advance for your effort!

Your title says pacific, your looking for pacifistic.

You'd have to use healing and possibly buffs exclusively.

er... I find a bit too much overcoming, that '-istic' suffix... How much damage it deals out, I 'wounder' :D

yes, healing is a high aim, as other spelltypes along with that... (levitation-fly, EmotionAndThoughtReading, DetectionsAndVisions... they'll all come, one step after another).
I would prefer to use no hint of 'will to hit something or someone'...
it seems complex, but I think it would rekindle me...
You see, I do not understand why, in a world of magic, everyone has to know how to land a blow (/cut/smash/whatever); so I will try to 'create' a way to be more peaceful than anyone else (not having the least proficiency in combat-related things).
Please, do not think I'm underrating your efforts: thank you so much!

Then I'd suggest investing in a Diplomatic Sorc/Cleric/MT who focuses on Divinations, Healing spells, Control spells (like Force Wall or Cage) and various PrC's and options, most of which will be in the Book of Exalted Deeds which gives a number of options for the more Saintly around the world.

er... (excuse me for my ignorance) does the book of Exalted Deeds allow to not invest part of the potential PC creation-developement in proficiencies like 'light armor' medium armor' 'weapon x', 'weapon y', in order to have the 'in peace from the start' instead of 'first learm the violence then dismiss it from your life if you wish'? [if that is the case, then I'll buy it, I'm currently trying to save some of my money from the clutches of my Hobbi(e?t)s]

thanks!

I'm not sure, I haven't got the book myself, but I know many people complain about Vow of Peace.

If you go to the D&D homepage there is an article on the classes and books.

It all depends on what you want to do.

I read your post and all the replies to make sure that I wouldnt be repeating what someone else said. Since no one else mentioned it, I wanted to mention it to you, before you spent the time working on this class or this character. In D & D, there is a lot of fighting, generally the good party trying to destory the evil that is all around them in my DMs games. However, even the character that is the most exalted can really be annoying in a D & D game. You can roleplay your little socks off and the other party members will still get mad at you. I will give you an example... Our current party consists of a barbarian/sorcerer/dragon disciple, a cleric/radiant servant of pelor, druid variant from unearthed, and a fighter/favored soul type. The Radiant Servant had every vow in the exalted book. She was fairly untouchable, would never take a human life, never struck anyone with a weapon...always went the redemption route. The character was built incredibly well, and was a healing machine. However, if you truly want to make a character that will not strike or contribute to the downfall of the NPCs, you might find some trouble in character with the rest of the party, and even find yourself annoying the players out of character, wondering why you created your character as you did. With all the vows in the book, the barbarian player would get furious at the cleric exalted player because everyone was built to destory evil, but he couldnt use his best abilities. Also, aside from the tension it may cause within your party dynamic, you may want to think about all those vows, if vows will be necessary in doing what youre doing. In a matter of a month of playing, the cleric lost one of her vows because of the barbarians actions. So the character lost a special ability, which she could not get back, because other the other character with whom she was travelling. Since then, she has lost all her vows, mostly by choice, but she would have eventually lost them anyway, because two of four members of the party are chaotic. The losing of all these special abilities made her really take a hit. Just think hard about it before you do it. You can build an incredible caster/healer/force of goodness, but it can be a tricky thing in the long run.
If you are still interested, I can get him to pass along his original build for you to look over.

Yes, thanks you very very much.
I know all too much well the issue you write of, and that's why I'm headed to worh such characters (all-of-a-kind) in very special parties... in my worlds violence is not very well rewarded... :D

in another way, my original class-to-be tends to be, I suspect, more 'do-as-you-wish' type than a wow-taker that obliges others to do as (s)he wants... So the barbarian berserker could kill lots of living beings, while 'my living almost-ghost fellow' could not be hurt. That's a way to live...
I'm starting to think: maybe I'm looking for a strange type of class akin to afterdeath yoda and obi-wan ...? :)
in a sense, immateriality would word fine for me  , but too many things seem could kill 'my ghostlike me'...
...boh? argh I'm losing myself... :weep:
