| Extemper05-30-04, 06:40 AM | Hello there, Just a little question of mine: If a Paladin takes a celestial horse for his mount, how do the special abilities of the horse work? Per se a horse has 3HD, what would give it a resistance against some energyforms of 5, after fitting it with the celestial template. But if you make it a Paladin's mount, it gains two more HD, giving it 5HD, what would give it a resistance of 10. So now my question: Does the horse gain the higher resistance due to the increased HD? Or isn't it allowed to change the resistance after initial creation of the celestial horse? I'm kind of puzzled about this. I didn't find any texts handling this problem. Please help. |

It it gains HD, it may gain abilities. If it loses HD, it may lose some abilities. A 3HD celestial warhorse is a 3HD creature. It gains the celestial abilities listed in the MM. If it somehow gains 2HD -- experience, being bonded to a paladin, taking a few levels of fighter, etc. -- it now has 5HD and all the special abilities of the 5HD celestial creature. If it gets energy drained by a vampire it drops back to 3HD, it have only the special abilities of a 3HD celestial creature. If cured -- say a restoration spell -- back to 5HD, it regains those abilities. Thanks, Brett |
