| Ikke 20909-07-04, 11:09 AM | Here's my problem: In a campaign my character is a human Paladin 8/Cavalier 1. At the moment my special mount is a heavy warhorse. In the DMG and Player's Handbook I tried to find a way to change that mount into a something else (I was thinking of a Pegasus). I found some information, but to be true: I don't understand anything of it. Now I'm hoping if there are some people around who could help me (please explain how to get a new 'mount' and how to handle my 'special mount' (which benefits it gains etc.). |

Just put him out to stud. Then get your Pegasus. The DMG says that a paladin can get a pegasus as a mount at lvl 7. And then, for determining its bonus HD and special abilities, you treat your paladin level as 2 lower than it is. Theres a chart in the DMG section about mounts that explains it. But for your case: Since your cavalier levels stack with your paladin levels for determing your special mount, you are essentially a lvl 9 paladin. If you get a Pegasus, then we treat you as a lvl 7 paladin for determining its abilities. So take the Pegasus from the Monster Manual, and give it all the benefits that a special mount for a lvl 7 paladin would have. Be sure to note that the mount gains bonus feats every 3HD. So because your pegasus would go from a 4 HD creature to a 6 HD creature, it gets a feat. I would suggest the Hover monster feat, or maybe the Wing Over feat. On a side note, there is a feat in Book of Exalted Deeds called Celestial Mount. With it, you can give your mount the Celestial template in addition to its other special qualities. Might be cool to be flying through the air on a celestial pegasus. |

Couldn't you just take the improved flight monster feat and give it perfect flight? I think it starts with good flight....if not the feat just ups your flight catagory by 1 i think. |

| thinkhard09-07-04, 04:08 PM | perfect flight means your unlimited in your battle maneuvering, unlike you would be with good or average flight. You wouldnt be able to hover over an enemy you were attacking, you wouldnt be able to fly backwards, you wouldnt be able to divebomb a target properly...perfect flight is essential to a flying mount. And it could still be celestial if you wanted if you took the celestial mount feat. |
