Is a PC monk allowed to not use special monk abilities such as moving faster than normal or the tumbling skill? In the GhostWalk campaign, there is a monastic order called Kreel. The leader of the Kreel order is a 20th lvl. human female monk and the GhostWalk campaign option book has it printed that she doesn't use her special monk abilities because she prefers not to or I don't remember what the rest of printed text is. If I play in the GhostWalk campaign, I want to start as a commoner, then warrior, then monk of the Kreel order so I can take after the leader and not use my special monk abilites of speed and tumbling. At what level do I achieve as commoner if I'm a PC who starts as a commoner, then warrior, then monk?

Uh... You can have the abilities without actually using them, you know.

This monastic head of the Kreel order has the abilities, but simply chooses not to go faster than normal speed or to tumble. You don't have to move your maximum speed all the time, after all.

As for the other abilities, I can see choosing not to use stunning fist, quivering palm or slow fall. The other abilities, on the other hand, can't really be turned off without DM consent as far as I know, so check with the great mighty one first.

So if you really want to be a monk and not use the abilities, just be a monk from lvl 1 and choose not to use your abilities in combat, and as long as your DM is okay with it you should be fine.
