I've been wanting to play a fighting type character using spiked chain for the past 4 years but lack of time has prevented me from doing it. Now the opportunity has come yet i can't find anything remotely interesting besides a fighter with feats. Yes the chain master had a certain "coolness factor" but it's 3.0.
Would you guys have any suggestions or ideas to throw my way? :help:

Take a level of sorcerer for Enlarge Person and True Strike.

Take some rogue levels for sneak attack.

Take some Barbarian for Rage.

rogue makes a nice one and then from there you can move into their prestige classes. may friend killed a young dragon by himself, he coup de grace it while it was sleeping, his rogue had the highest move silent i have ever seen in my 4 years for a low level that didnt even munch it (max out skill +12 i think 20 dex (18nat +2race) and like another bonus from race like +2-4 i think) and a spiked chain and he tripped like mad. so IMO the rogue is a nice class to use it with.

This is bad advice. A level of Sorceror means you get 1 less BAB, a crappy hit die, and nothing useful except the ability to cast these two spells a total of three times a day. One lasts minutes, the other for a single attack. And both take a standard action to cast. And it gives you reason to consider investing in Charisma, when you already need decent Str, Dex, and Con.

I'd rather take a single level of Barbarian than a single level of Sorceror.

the last time i made a spiked chain wielder I did a Swashbuckler/Rouge cross class that worked very nicely. Take feats like improved feint, prone attack, and kick up if you can. Its fun to find new ways of getting you sneak attack bonus like lying on the ground. ;)

Second the Exotic Weapon Master (3.5 from CW).
It bears no resemblance whatever to the 3.0 version.
Flurry of Strikes is awesome for the chain.

i thought you couldn't coup de grace something that's immune to crits? and i thought dragons are immune to crits? i'm i wrong on either or both counts?

theres a class in sword and fist that is all about using chains.

Yeah, no coup or death from massive damage if immune to crits., but Dragons are not.

Maybe take a few levels in Cleric with the Strength domain? It would up your Will saves, lets you use Cure Wands, and only a slight decrease in BAB and HD.

I would probably go rogue/fighter and get some sneak attack damage in. The Spiked Chain isn't really about massive damage...it's about using lots of tricks to get extra attacks.

take 2 levels in figher 3 in swashbuckler get a good int and prestige to the Master of Chains from sword and fist, this is one of my favorite prcs its just so much fun!!!! Make chains into armor and use spiked chains as double weapons and just all kinds of super fun abilities.
