| takis08-30-07, 12:33 PM | I' m playing a 9 level ranger. His combat style is for swords. So could anyone suggest me a prestige class??? I have something on my mind but i would like to hear someones else opinion...... |
| The_Shaman08-30-07, 12:56 PM | Well, it depends on the ability and fluff you want to keep. The first thing that comes to mind, strangely enough, is a rogue-ish PrC, the Nightsong enforcer - you get no spells, but a good number of SA dice (great for TWFers) rogue abilities, and other decent benefits. Of course, anything from Lion of Talisid to Animal lord can work... what do you want your character to excel in? |
| RobbyPants08-30-07, 01:19 PM | Ranger? Swords? Two weapon fighting (I'm assuming)? Sounds like Tempest to me. I can't remember if it's in the Complete Adventurer or the Complete Warrior, but the tempest is a PrC that focuses exclusively on TWF. |
| The_Shaman08-30-07, 01:39 PM | Adventurer I think, but I'm a bit wary of it for rangers due to the feat prerequisites. Still, if you want to go the Spring Attack route anyway, it can help. |
| peteyrock08-30-07, 05:51 PM | I found that Horizon Walker worked well for my ranger. He got the skills boost he needed and a decent dose of Fort. |
| usemagicdevice08-30-07, 05:57 PM | Dervish maybe: crazy strong abilities with two slashing blades (complete warrior) |
| EpicEvokerElf08-30-07, 06:35 PM | If you can get the feats, I like Xx 5/Dervish 3/ Tempest 5/Dervish 7. |
| takis08-30-07, 07:17 PM | thnks everyone. i' ll see the Prc that you have suggested.... :) :) :) |
| dman1123508-30-07, 07:19 PM | Both are CW. |

Focusing on Animal Companion=Beastmaster: add in +3 from Complete Adventurer feat boosting animakl companion: you get better than a straight Druid at AC feature. |
| Nightshade08-30-07, 07:38 PM | Tempest is a mediocre prc for a Ranger. You really have to be a fighter to gain the really good bonuses from Two Weapon Versatility because Weapon Specialization is a fighter only feat. You could pick up Improved Crit for your primary weapon and weapon focus and still have them apply, but it's not optimal. And it has very heavy feat requirements for entrance. You can only do it well if a human and you'll never be as good as a fighter doing the same thing. 1 Dodge H Weapon Focus 2 Two Weapon Fighting 3 Endurance, Mobility 6 Improved Two Weapon Fighting, Spring Attack 9 Improved Crit If you go this route, take 4 class levels of fighter to pick up Weapon Specialization. The other 2 feats won't hurt either. |
| danielinthewolvesden08-30-07, 07:39 PM | There's a great one in Races of Stone, but I think you have to be a dwarf. |
| zenlike08-30-07, 08:35 PM | The Wildrunner from Races of the Wild is pretty fun to play. You have to be Elf or Half-Elf. |
| takis08-31-07, 01:35 PM | Well I can tell u now the prestige class. Actually are 2. It's a bit crazy but i think it's good. Well the prestiges are: Wildrunner and Tempest. Thanks everybody 4 your suggestions..... What's your opinion??? |
| Treantmonklvl2008-31-07, 02:14 PM | If your ranger is good - there is a great PrC for rangers in Book of Exalted Deeds. Off the top of my head I think it's called Servant of Karesh? Gets Evil as favored enemy! |
| Despot_Arrow08-31-07, 02:43 PM | I like the Dread Commando. It is from the Hero's of Battle. Full BA and Sudden Attack, add you DrC level to you and allies intiative. This will also lends its self to Tempest or Dervish. |
| Khadmus08-31-07, 02:47 PM | There's a great one in Races of Stone, but I think you have to be a dwarf. You do. |

| Dog_O_War08-31-07, 04:09 PM | If you had prepared for it, then shadowdancer. I know, it may not be the most awesome of choices, but with certain changes (with the DM's approval) you could have a caudre (probably didn't spell that correctly) of shadow compainions (like an animal companion with the dark template from ToM) while still gaining things like evasion. It gives you alot of unique abilities that the ranger could often really use (like uncanny dodge) with a relatively small sacrifice of 3 points of base attack (and if you're human, you finally get to see in the dark!). I did this with a ranger character of mine and am not disappointed with my choice (though having to diverge skill points into perform was abit of a drag; luckly rangers get alot of them). |
| imakuni6708-31-07, 04:38 PM | Weapon Master is great if you are fighting with two of the same weapons (the classic 2 scimitars for example). If you are fighting lots of dragons, dragon hunter isn't bad. |

Well, I wouldn't call it an optimal PrC, but I don't think it's hard for a Ranger, nor do I feel a fighter would be necessarily better at it. If you plan from it at level 1, you can easiliy meet the 5 feat prereqs. Two of them (TWF and ITWF) you get for free for being a Ranger. The other three can be taken at levels 1, 3, and 6. As for the Two Weapon Versatility ability, I have a tendancy to use two of the same weapon anyway. For the first nine levels of your career you won't have its benifit. Granted, if you're a Fighter, you can get the Specialization feats to increase your per-attack damage; however, a Ranger can increase their per-attack damage with favored enemy. It's all fairly situational. |
| Nephlite08-31-07, 10:19 PM | Assuming they mean Deepwarden. Just take 3 levels in Stone blessed: you vount as Dawarf, Gnome, or goliath (your choice) at end and gain +2 Con as a bonus. Than you can take Deepwarden. |
| derpderp09-09-07, 07:21 AM | any suggestions for a bow-ranger? |
| Hellsbells09-09-07, 02:27 PM | So what theme/fluff did the thread starter say he was working on? |
| The_Shaman09-09-07, 06:02 PM | any suggestions for a bow-ranger? A few. Aside from the usual versatile ones (nightsong enforcer - often underestimated for rangers, horizon walker for the dim-door, etc) a master archer wanting to specialize may benefit from any of the following: - Peerless Archer (Silver Marches, feat-heavy and imo fighter-oriented) - probably my personal choice if you have the feats to meet its prerequisites or dip into fighter a bit. - Deepwood sniper (Masters of the Wild, 3.0 - needs minimal update), - Justice of Weald and Woe (Champions of Ruin, does not list any race/alignment prerequisites, but imo needs both, medium BAB) - Kensai (Cwarrior, lawful only) - while more appropriate for melee warriors, it could work as it allows enhancement of bows as well. However, with the spells from a few splatbooks (CoRuin deserves special mention, but CAdv and whichever book had the original Hunter's Mercy spell are quite good too) a pure ranger gets some nice trick-shot spells that might just be worth it. Oh, btw, if you are thinking of Beastmaster, it makes little sense past lvl 1. After the AComp boost, Animal Lord works much better. |
| zenlike09-10-07, 02:25 AM | The Peerless Archer is nice but it is also 3.0. However, it needs only a few minor tweaks and it works fine. |
