| Thorak05-29-06, 11:25 AM | is there a prince of persia kind of class? with the wall walk and other special moves, but still good in fighting. i hope anybody knows. Not a class, but there's a feat. It's called Up The Walls, a psionic feat from the XPH, but it's also in the SRD psionics section. While you need to be psionic to take it, you can either be a race that has an innate psionic potential (again, see the XPH or SRD for a few), or take the Wild Talent feat, which makes you a psionic character and gives you 1 power point. Up The Walls lets you make any portion of a Move action along any flat surface that is vertical or less. You can't hang from ceilings, but wall-running is definitely an option. You'll probably only have about 30' of movement on a wall, since you need to end your movement on a flat surface or fall, but the Prince never gets much more than that anyway. Combine with any class that fits his combat style and what you like, and you're good to go. |
| Tempest Stormwind05-29-06, 01:06 PM | The combat style can be matched pretty easily by a scout (Complete Adventurer; the core alternative is a rogue/fighter) and the Dervish PrC in Complete Warrior -- in fact, the Dervish Dance ability looks almost exactly like the D&D analogue of the Prince's attacks (in the newer games at least; in his early games he was little more than a rogue with proficiency with the scimitar and Combat Expertise). Another option -- particularly if you want to draw elements from the later games -- is Thief-Acrobat, from Complete Adventurer. The only thing that class has that doesn't fit the Prince in those games is Prone Attack (although in Warrior Within and Two Thrones he had a standing-from-prone-kick that did similar things). And for reference, Up the Walls looks like this:Up The Walls [Psionic] You can run on walls for brief distances. Prerequisite: Wis 13. Benefit: While you are psionically focused, you can take part of one of your move actions to traverse a wall or other relatively smooth vertical surface if you begin and end your move on a horizontal surface. The height you can achieve on the wall is limited only by this movement restriction. If you do not end your move on a horizontal surface, you fall prone, taking falling damage as appropriate for your distance above the ground. Treat the wall as a normal floor for the purpose of measuring your movement. Passing from floor to wall or wall to floor costs no movement; you can change surfaces freely. Opponents on the ground can make attacks of opportunity as you move up the wall. Special: You can take other move actions in conjunction with moving along a wall. For instance, the Spring Attack feat allows you to make an attack from the wall against a foe standing on the ground who is within the area you threaten; however, if you are somehow prevented from completing your move, you fall. Likewise, you could tumble along the wall to avoid attacks of opportunity. |
| sedai05-30-06, 03:22 AM | i know someone who wants to play a prince of persia styled character, so he's making one, but since his experience in d&D is... in total... 10 hours of playing... 4-5 sessions that is, i don't think he is doing a very good job.. so i wondered if there was a class of that already, ill tell him to take a look at those. |
| rogue_lettuce05-30-06, 08:13 AM | Someone made a class based on it ages ago right here. I can't remember its name or anything, sorry. |
| Father Dale05-30-06, 09:47 AM | I think Scout/Dervish will match him as far as abilities goes more than anything, although the flavor text for these classes doesn't at all. You want an extremely agile TWF guy, and thats what you get with the Scout/Dervish. Theres an exotic weapon in Dragonlance called a Toothchain. Its essentially the same as a spiked chain, except its a one handed weapon that deals 1d6 damage. I had an idea for a PoP themed character using this weapon (Scout/Dervish was the idea now that i think about it). I can't remember if the Prince was using a dagger or a scimitar while he was using the chain thingy, but with a Dervish it would be just fine either way since both would be light weapons. Thus, he could use the chain in one hand and a dagger or scimitar as his offhand without problems. |
