A question about the druid variants in Unearthed Arcana [Archive] - Wizards Community

Not to reveal too much of the information contained therein, but...

There is a druid variant that swaps the druid's wildshape ability for a mixture of monk and ranger abilities. These include the ranger's Favored Enemy ability. My question is thus: does that entail obtaining new favored enemies at every fifth level, as does the ranger, or is it simply a one-time favored enemy at first level?

My initial thought is yes, but I am interested in what others have to say on this.

Zug Zug.

If I recall correctly, it says Favored Enemy: as Ranger. Which would indeed mean it would be every 5 levels. Otherwise, if it dosen't mention specifically, then no. Get your DM to make a ruling before getting involved.

Under the heading "Other Class Variants" (UA p58) it says:

"A class feature gained works just as it did for its original class, including the level at which it is gained and any other effects, except as noted".

So, for example, the variant Druid's abilities function exactly as they would for a Monk or Ranger of the same level, but the variant Ranger's Wild Shape works like a Druid's but only allows the Ranger to turn into Small or Medium animals.

Hope this helps.
