| Mirikon09-17-05, 01:49 PM | Rogues make good fighters in an urban setting, as do Ninjas. The Urban Ranger variant from UA does well, too. |
| Adlar Hodge09-17-05, 02:07 PM | A fighter/monk might be a good way to go. Have fun with it. |
| Azual09-17-05, 02:54 PM | non monk. specializes in fists... thanks ahead of time |
| Thorak09-17-05, 04:01 PM | Fighter. Start with IUS and perhaps Improved Grapple. Take the WF and WS tree with unarmed strikes. Take any other feats that seem useful, like Earths Embrace for a grappler. If you've got the dex, take TWF and the feats related to it. When you start getting magical gear, get enchanted gauntlets; they work the same as any other weapon. Really, the base damage shouldn't be that big a deal. Compared to a longsword, you average about 3 less damage a hit. You also lose out slightly on criticals. But, you can't be disarmed. So there are benefits. By concentrating on a sub-par weapon, you won't be as optimised as possible, but 3 damage a hit isn't going to break you. If there's any drawback, it's that you can't wield it in two hands for 1.5x Str damage. Another alternative, as mentioned, is the Rogue. Abuse the snot out of Feint. A Feint means you get to Sneak Attack on your next attack. Which is darn good damage. It just depends on whether you prefer the big tough take-the-hits-and-beat-em-down type fighter, or the nimble avoid-the-blows kidney-punch kind. The Ranger can work a bit too, especially if the DM lets you modify the class to get rid of abilities, like spells, that don't fit. He makes a nice balance between the two, and can get the TWF feats without needing the dex, which can be nice. Barbarian I wouldn't suggest, solely because they get Str boosts, and you're so much better off with a two-handed weapon when Raging. You can do it, and it'll work, but it's potentially less optimised than the other three classes I've mentioned. |
