I am nearly sure I am missing it somewhere, but I cannot find the answer to this question;

Can a favored soul give up prepared spells for cure/inflict wounds spells like a cleric can?

My interpretation is no- as the method of connecting with the divine magic is different. But I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere.

If its not in the class description and not in the general rules (as is this case), then no there is no spontaneous casting.

Hes a spontaneous caster already, so the whole "swaping out" thing doesnt really work.

If he wants to cast a cure spell, it has to be on his list of spells-known.

I assumed so during my discussions with other players.

But then the whole "Turn undead" discussion came up.

So, same question for that- can favored souls turn undead, if they are of good alignment?

I'm afraid the answer is again "no". Spontaneous casting of inflict/cure spells and turning undead are class features of the cleric and the favored soul has neither of them.

I find it ironic that when the Miniatures handbook first came out with that class, everyone was shouting about how powerful that class was. Too powerful in fact. The truth is that the favored soul may be easier to play but without those two abilities it is actually behind the cleric in terms of power. They are a solid playable class but there are so many options that work off of turn undead attempts that are very powerful now and the fact that clerics never need to prepare a cure spell continue to make them a very powerful and versatile class.

If your next question is "do favored souls get access to domain spells" the answer is again "no" unless it is also a cleric spell. There may be some feats out there that have a way to get around this though.

Right eggplantm.

Favored souls are quite a bit weaker than clerics, but clerics are near the top of the power curve at pretty much all levels, so thats not saying much.

A favored soul who takes advantage of his martial abilities, using spells like Divine Power or Righteous Might every encounter can be as powerful as youll ever want him to be.

Thanks for the reply.

I assumed as much.

But I have a few 'rules lawyers' in my group- one that sticks to the strictest interpretations of the printed word, and another that insists on the 'spirit' of it all.
