| AM roach07-26-05, 02:25 PM | As it says in the title, (Before i start sorry if its in the wrong place i didn't know what to put it under its quite a few things) anyway... I was think about the Stereotypical wizards you see in films and Described in books (probally; kids ones) and there all ways a Humanoid, old , grey beard, skinny, tall and male. Now what race would that be for them to be old have a beard be male and all that lot, Honestly, any one? sorry if this has been said before, im clueless, and if not sorry i i didnt rant on more but im not the eassy writing type, and for all those who want me to shut up now i will; but you should have stoped reading ages ago P.s sorry its in the wrong place (probally) so about about bad spelling and grammer (more then likely) yeah and every thing else yeah, later |
| Manyfist07-26-05, 02:28 PM | Human, Greybearded Elderly and with an Pointy Hat.... Gandalf! Merlin! Every Human Wizard from FR! |
| Torack07-26-05, 03:10 PM | Every Human Wizard from FR! The seven sisters have beards? Eeeeeew! ;) Well wizards spend alot of time studying in their towers, unlocking the secrets of the arcane. And by 'alot' I mean...they're lucky if they get out before they die. But as the poster above me said: A venerable human wizard. Alternatively you could go for a dwarven wizard. Beard not included. |
| Puca07-26-05, 03:40 PM | What, exactly is the problem? You dont like the stereotype? Im not sure what it is that bothers you so much. |
| Manyfist07-26-05, 04:30 PM | I like the Stereotype, I find it amusing. Remember... book before brawn. |
| LordofNightmares07-26-05, 04:36 PM | I good long bead can be grown in about 2 years as a human, I've done it, its not that difficult. So assuming that, and a wiards really would not care much about getting out his razor and shaving, I could se a mid 20-somthing wizard (lvl 4-6) looking like ht e stereotypical wizard, amybe with a little less grey than the masters, but sill, its pheasable. |
| Pax07-26-05, 04:50 PM | It's also quite probable that if all the older and experienced wizards have beards, then the younger wizards will activelyu seek to grow one, just to be taken seriously. Reinforce this with, perhaps, a law or rule requiring apprentices to be clean-shaven, and, well ... growing a beard might become a mark of having FINISHED your apprenticeship. |
| Verelor07-26-05, 05:19 PM | What do you expect? Male wizards tend to be quite conservative fellows. If they're looking up to the greatest wizards in the world like Morenkainen and Eleminster, they might as well go for the look, too. |
| Manyfist07-26-05, 05:34 PM | The beard is well liked by the Ladies. Longer the beard... higher in lvl the Wizard is... so if you have a Beard to the ground, you're lvl 10... yet it takes a true master to grow their beard and have it slung over their shoulder. |
| Xanith Legacy07-26-05, 11:01 PM | Heh, consider Raistlen from Dragonlance, became more powerful than the gods themselves in one chain of time. No beard for him. Whats ur complaint anyway your not making a good point on what you want to rant about |
| TyraaloftheFist07-26-05, 11:21 PM | ...humans can be old, bearded, and gray-haired. They can also be wizards. Gandalf=Human...old...bearded...starts grey and turns white. Elminster=...same as above, not sure on color, though. Mordenkainen=Wait, wait. No beard...maybe a goatee. Odd. Bald, too. Well, they're all male, but not all bearded. Not sure on the thin part, either. There are a couple ways Raistlin breaks the mold...he's young, golden-skinned, beardless, white-haired, and...well, that's pretty much it, although I never heard him really described as 'skinny'. More like 'slender'. |
| Ziatyn Phoenixwolf07-26-05, 11:27 PM | I think that I have a grasp of what the poster is trying to ask. What would be the race of these wizards that seem to be everywhere and have awesome powerand happen to look the same. That is if the race is not truly human. Foe instance Gandalf is not a human the name of the Tolkin mage race escapes me but has been mentioned many times on the boards. I have also read the Mithgar book by Dennis L. McKiernan, and his wizards are from a different plain, and they are immortal, but age as they expend magical power. THey can regain their youthful look by a special means of rest. That my be what he is loking for. |
| Manyfist07-27-05, 04:07 AM | Gandalf was an Angel in Human flesh, they are tech. immortal Humans, Suaroman had a Beard... lol. Bearded Humans are funny... I wish I could grow a beard... I can't get more than a Goatee. |
| ILL34GL307-27-05, 04:49 AM | The seven sisters have beards? Eeeeeew! Yeah they have beards. Just not the facial type. |
| Nyferto07-27-05, 07:38 AM | I see the problem, Wizards shouldn't get their current level of power until they're ancient. So at this point we see the Wizards as a d8 3/4 BAB Maximum 4th level spells Good Will save At some point they can gain Epic Feats that expand this power , but they only take it once they've reached a certain age catagory and lived for a certain number of years. Taking the feats incurs double Stat penalties. An alternative would be to have a Wizard PrC that extends into Epic levels and works in a similar way to the Sublime Chord (or was it Seeker of the Song). |
| Sharax07-27-05, 08:17 AM | This is why i prefer sorcerers :P |
| Zetakya07-27-05, 08:25 AM | With 1/2 BAB and nonproficiency, would you trust a Wizard to shave without slitting his own throat? :P |
| CzarGarrett07-27-05, 08:36 AM | Phooey. There are dozens of wizards out there without beards, you just have to either look in different spots or make them yourself. |
| lancean07-27-05, 09:57 AM | Bah. The only way to get a proper beard on a young wizard is to make him a dwarf! Armored dwarven wizards rule. |
