A rogue's sneak attack. [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-21-05, 08:28 PM So, say you're a rogue and have a base attack of +6/+1... so two attacks.

Now say you catch an opponent off-guard, so they don't get that dex bonus and you get your sneak attack... so, do you get that sneak attack damage on both attacks, or just one?

09-21-05, 08:32 PM As covered in the rules, you gain your sneak attack bonus damage on each and every attack you launch against a foe that strikes. There's a couple of conditions where this doesn't work though. The first is where your form of attack is specifically stated as not applying for all strikes that hit. An example of this would be the Multishot feat.

The other condition is when the foe you're sneak attacking is simply immune to it, like a golem or undead.

Other than that, it's all good. In your example of a +6 / +1 BAB, yes, if you full attack on a surprised or flanked foe or a foe that has been denied their Dexterity to armor class for some reason (is Stunned), both attacks if they hit do sneak attack damage. Let's pretend you're dual wielding. In the same case you'd strike twice with your on hand due to your +6 / +1 BAB and once with your off hand, and all 3 attacks are capable of doing sneak attack bonus damage.

Moral of the story - a party that works with a Rogue to help set up these situations can reap quick heavy damage towards the start and middle of a fight.
