| TheMightyMcClaw03-14-04, 10:43 AM | Alright.... I find the whole "flurry of blows" setup for the monk extremely awkward, especially in 3.5. So what if instead of getting a whole seperate attack bonus to make extra attacks with, monks got a) a 1/1 BAB (like a ranger or fighter) and b) free use of TWF for unarmed strikes and monk-weapons. Thus, there's no little snags about you're strength bonus, and you don't have the problem of a kama-wielding being able to "flurry" just as quickly with a single kama as with the traditional twin tama. The monk still gets just as many attacks as any one else does, and their base attack bonus is put on par with the other combat classes. Any comments? |

But your opinion is really interesting, post your own custom monk class here ;) |
| Neutral Good Monk03-24-04, 09:37 PM | The strange treatment of the monk's BAB has always bothered me as well. I e-mailed Monte Cook and a few others regarding the matter, specifically why monk's don't share the same BAB as the other classes in that niche. The responses varied but basically stated that the monk had too many other abilities for a monk to have the full BAB progression. To answer your specific request for feedback, the informaiton I received from those experts who responded was that you have to take something away from the monk in order to grant the full BAB. Since your proposal only beefs up the monk, I'd say it doesn't pass the test. Some recommended swaps for the full BAB were one special ability (or ability progression) every five levels, dropping the monk's skill points to 2/level, and dropping one of the saves to the poor progression. I request your feedback in turn on what you would subtract from the monk in order to give the class the full BAB as I have been very interested in playing such a monk (haven't done so yet because of concerns I have over making changes without a double-check of the resulting balance). |
| DM Zoc03-24-04, 10:35 PM | If you remove the flurry of blows, my fighter/monk 4/16 can no longer get 10 attacks per round at + 16/16/16/16/11/11/6/6/1/1 . Why are you trying to nerf my lovely build so much?!? |
