I used the Ranger variant of the Dragon 324 found on page 95 as a guideline for this class. I wanted to create a Ranger that is more like an elven-ranger. One, that moves with the nature not just through it. all in all I would say I've created a class that has a lot of class-abilities but all of them are defensive and thus the class - I think - is not unbalanced. But in the end I want your opinion so that's why I'm posting the class. What do you think of it? Thanks, Kergan P.S.: :embarrass if you write some comments, please don't write something like "this class sucks" but more like "this class sucks, because... and I'd suggest to change... ". Thanks! |
| Kergan02-02-05, 02:01 PM | I'm a little bit astonished that nobody, absolutely nobody got anything to say weather he like's the class or not... and I'm badly disappointed that noone feels the need to help me in some way with this class... ah! wathever... :waits: |
| gribnit02-02-05, 02:11 PM | exactly what was swapped out for what? I see that favored enemy is gone.. could you post the exact swaps you made and the rationale? |
| Kergan02-02-05, 02:32 PM | @gribnit The problem is that I can't tell you exactly what was swapped out for what. I took a lot of abilities (that seemed appropriate) because of the fact that this variant doesn't get any offensive abilities - not even very powerfull spells. So, all in all it isn't a very powerfull class - the idea was to build a cool class - and that's the whole story why the class got so many (especially defensive and movement related) abilities... I wrote that this is a variant ranger and I was inspired by the Scout/Ranger/Wild Defender of the Dragon 324 but in the end you have to look at this class as a whole new class. do you think it's balanced? would you consider playing this class? |
| Arthias02-02-05, 03:10 PM | Well, i like the idea because ALL of my rangers seem to die because the real brute in the group runs into the fray and dies right away leaving me and the pisonic/spellcaster to fend off the enemy, and usally i get ruined in the melee as the pisonic/spellcaster runs away. Note:The people I play with don't like Clerics  |
| dnddansorc02-02-05, 03:20 PM | The idea is a good one! It would be interesting to play sometime since I enjoy the Ranger Class best of all. Good job on creating a fair ballance of stats. I think that it would take lots of stratagy to do well with this character, but if used correctly i could be quiet powerfull. |
| Grigori02-02-05, 03:24 PM | Seems like a scout (not from the complete adventurer). Someone who's good at laying low and surviving on his own. But, capable of doing alright in a fight. I'd seriously look into the favored terrain variant from the UA. It might give you some good ideas to work with. Or look at the 'Ultimate ranger'. |
| gribnit02-02-05, 04:20 PM | well, I can't tell if it's balanced without seeing several played, of course. Estimating balance would require me to figure out the differences, assign values to them, and compare the totals, and that's more work than I feel like doing. However, you've removed 2 very powerful abilities of the ranger, arguably the two most powerful, Combat Style and Favored Enemy, so at a first glance, it seems fine to pile on the defensive abilities. I can't say anything more as to balance. As for whether I'd play one, well, it's not my style, I'm more into full spellcasters or idiotic fighter-types. But, it certainly seems playable. |
| Kergan02-05-05, 06:49 AM | Thanks, I'm glad to see that there are some people out there that like this class as much as I do. Thanks for your statements - I'll test this class as soon as possible in our campagne. I'll let you know if it does well... Thanks, Kergan |
| Nyferto02-05-05, 07:57 AM | You basically seem to have taken the Ranger, dropped Favoured Enemy and given it a bunch of extra's without taking anything real away. I thought the class was powerful when I though they had no spells, then I saw the spell chart at the end. Are spells the same as the Rangers as well? |
