Are there any rules that prohibit this setup? (If yes, where?) Can the player select the SAME prohibited schools for both his Evoker & Conjurer choices? Thanks for shedding some light on this! RiTz21

Twice the bonus feats, all the BAB, and a +20 fortitude save! Or instead of a mere 5d6 sneak attack from Rogue(10), why not twice as much - a full +10d6 - as a Rogue(1)/Rogue(1) /Rogue(1)/Rogue(1) /Rogue(1)/Rogue(1) /Rogue(1)/Rogue(1) /Rogue(1)/Rogue(1) ...? In other words: no, you can't do that. Das ist verboten.
ehrin 05-08-05, 10:36 AM	Page 59 of the PHB. A character can't gain 1st level in the same class more than once, even if this would allow him or her to select different class features, such as a different set of domains for a cleric. If, however, some DM allowed you to do what you say, what schools would you give up to double specialize? That's four schools of magic you have to give up. You would be left with Divination, Universal, Evocation, and Conjuration. It's a good two school set, but it leaves you very weak in the long run.

Player's Handbook page 59 shows an example of prohibiting to combine clerics with different domains, and the same principle applies to wizards with different school specialization. Both generalist wizards and specialist wizards essentially have the "Wizard" class. You cannot multiclass a "regular" class and a variant of the class either. Cleric / Cloistered Cleric (in Unearthed Arcana) and Ranger / Urban Ranger (in Races of Destiny) are examples of such pairs. However, you can multiclass specialist wizard and sorcerer to get access to schools prohibited by your school specialization via sorcerer levels. With one sorcerer level, you get access to scrolls and wands of your prohibited schools, so it *might* be worth a try.

(doh) However, you can multiclass specialist wizard and sorcerer to get access to schools prohibited by your school specialization via sorcerer levels. With one sorcerer level, you get access to scrolls and wands of your prohibited schools, so it *might* be worth a try. A SORCERER can specialize !??! I though it was a Wizard only thing... !!?? However, some folks (meaning, me) have house rules that DO allow that to happen - with lots of limtis, different benefits, and as part and parcel of an overall rearrangement of the Sorceror class in general.
ebaatezu 05-08-05, 01:34 PM	What i do to get around this is to play my necromancy specialist wizard and then at an appropriate level i take a prestige class that lets me specialize in a different school. i think the one i found on here before was evoker. the prc gains +1 spell levels per prc level on the original class and i still have my original specialist. that way if you really wanted to do so you could pick the same banned school for both. i do not allow players to do that though in my campaign. hope that helps.
Rulebook 05-08-05, 02:02 PM	dulldoll, your wording was perfect. lol "get access to schools prohibited by your school specialization via sorcerer levels" you get access (to what) to schools prohibited by your school specicialization (how) via sorcerer levels. nothing wrong with the wording.
