The Favored soul class gains resistance 10 to three energy types over the course of its 20 levels. These are also extraordinary abilities. Now do these different abilities stack? Or do they overlap? If a favored soul picked cold would the resistance go to 15 or just 10? Thanks |
| Lexarius04-18-05, 09:16 PM | Overlap. Though if your DM was nice, he'd let them stack. You're paying for that with level adjustment, after all. |
| DM Denubis04-18-05, 10:14 PM | Heh... Not if you have a Player's Guide to Faerun. ^^ By the way, they overlap. |

Thanks Since energy resistance from different sources don't stack, you can look to get the most bang for your buck by taking resistance to fire, force, sonic, or negative energy (though I once had a tomb-tainted favored soul with resistance to positive energy). |
| nycfarmkid04-19-05, 06:38 AM | I didnt know if was possible to resist force. Thats an interesting idea. |
| DM Zoc04-19-05, 06:52 AM | The books are kind of vague on it, because resistance to positive/negative energy damage or force damage never show up on any monsters I can think of. The definition of "resistance" in the SRD says that it only applies against the "specified" energy types, but never goes towards explaining what qualifies as "energy." We know that positive and negative are energy types. I'm not certain, but I believe that force is an energy type. A lenient DM might let you get away with calling "piercing" an energy type, since there's no indication anywhere that it isn't (and this is essentially free reign to take resistance against any thing you want, from "tree" energy to "rock" energy [useful against giants] to the power-gamers and their resistance to "kinetic" energy [everything] to the free thinkers and their resistance to "potential" energy). |
| Lexarius04-19-05, 07:23 AM | Resistances help against energy damage. From the PHB: "energy damage: Damage cause by one of five types of energy (not counting positive and negative energy): acid, cold, electricity, fire, and sonic" |
