I was going to play a LN DN, but came with an idea that discussed with my master: my PC doesn't want to become a Lich. I think that, when you get to level 20, you can choose to not turn into a lich. After all, doing that requires a ritual and the crafting of the phylactery. If you don't do that, there's no way you can turn into a lich. However, ¿would my DN be underpowered without that feature?

Your character will only become a lich at lvl. 20 so you alternatively just take a couple of lvls in a PrC and you wouldnt have anything to worry about. But if you decided to take all twenty lvls and not become a lich i would say that you would make yourself a bit underpowered (at least in comparison to another lvl. 20 DN)

I'm thinking of, instead of turning into a lich, allow it to become a living creature that can be turned and/or rebuked, healed by negative energy and harmed by positive energy; like the Deadgrim PrC from Magic of Eberron.

What most: we are not going to use create undead spells as evil ones (evil necromancers are boring).

Well, the goal of a Dread Necromancer is to become a Lich. If you look at it's class abilities, they all pretty much lead up to it. If you want to be a necromancer that doesn't turn into a lich, play a cleric/wizard that goes for True Necromancer PrC (Libris Mortis?)

Palemaster. you get many of the abilities of an undead but are still alive.
