does it aply to prestige classes too ?

an example :

monk 1\samurai 4\assassin 3

what is the xp penalty so far ? :\ couse I really need to know how the xp penalty is applied in mutliclassing

12-17-05, 11:16 AM The XP penalty does not apply to prestige classes. It does apply to base clases however.

If you pick up a second base class you suffer the XP penalty, unless one of the two base classes is a favored class of your race. Humans and half elves can choose any one class as a favored class, all other races have one listed in their description. If you pick up a third base class, you will always suffer an xp penalty.

It is, however, in the SRD (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) under Prestige Classes (http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/PrestigeClasses.rtf). All the non-favored classes your character has have to stay within one level of each other in order to avoid the XP penalty.monk 1\samurai 4\assassin 3

12-17-05, 04:19 PM favored class is based on race. If you're playing a human or half elf, there is no xp penalty, as your highest level class (samurai) does not count for xp penalties. Prestige classes never impose an xp penalty.

Okay. :uh-huh:

First, remove assassin [PrC] from the equation. Now you're left with:

monk 1/samurai 4

Take your class with the highest level (samurai 4) and compare the other class(es) you have. If a class is two or more levels lower than your highest class, a 20% XP is applied. It's per class, NOT per level of difference.

samurai 4 > monk 1 = 3 levels of difference = 20% penalty.
