Thorax2 06-07-07, 05:13 PM	Just wondering... If you lose your Dexterity to AC when flat-footed, does that mean a character with a 8 Dexterity (-1 penalty) get better at dodging blows when not knowing where the attacker is or where the attack came from?
Keenath 06-07-07, 05:19 PM	Uhhh.. that's not a PEACH (please evaluate and critique honestly), which is a request to look over some idea for a new game element. And to your question, no. If you look at it, you lose your dexterity BONUS to AC. A penalty is not a bonus. What you're talking about would have to say "lose your dexterity modifier to AC", which isn't the same thing. Coincidentally, this is covered in the main 3.5 FAQ (D&D website > Game Rules > Game Rule FAQ) on page 62: Q: Say my character has a 3 in Dexterity, giving him a negative modifier to his AC. Now if he is caught flat-footed, he is denied his Dex modifier to his AC. Does this mean that his AC is actually better if he is caught flat-footed? A: Actually, the definition for flat-footed indicates that you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC (if any); it doesn’t remove a penalty that you normally receive from having a low Dexterity score.
