Since I'm about a quarter Greek, I thought it would be interesting to play a ranged attacker using Javelins as a primary weapon. First thing that comes to mind is Brutal Throw so I don't necessarily have to stack both strength and dexterity for damage output. Second, I would probably need a Quiver of Ehlonna so I could keep a lot of Javelins on me. Third, what kind of base class would I use? Using a Scout for Skirmish came to mind, though the excess skill points, trapfinding, and the like seem kind of silly. Fighter multi-classed with something else seemed likely, but I don't know what to multi-class with. I'm borrowing the Tome of Battle from a friend, so I'll see what is in there that might work. ======================================== ============================== Second. Bards are (in general) a bit weak. They are my favorite class, but admittedly weak. I was thinking, expand Bardic Music. Now you can get things like Melodic Casting, Lyric Spell, and the like, but Bardic Casting isn't really that great. Granted, with the advent of the spell Inspirational Boost (love that spell) we get a bit more spotlight and can help out more. Good Hope, while an excellent spell, does not stack with Bardic Music. The idea I had was giving the Bard the ability to research new songs almost like a caster can. A song that my DM granted me is a replica of the Song of Sonic Swords like the one from Kung Fu Hustle, except it sucks because of how it is used. Research a song that would allow a Bard to Empower a caster's spell once per round, even his own. Research songs similar to the Virtuoso songs. Research a song so heavenly that all non-good characters are shaken when played, no save. These are just ideas, but the problem would be finding a balance. The song of sonic blades that I have I have had since level 8, and I'm now level 10 and have not used it once because though the DM said it is very powerful, I'm frankly more often needed elsewhere and can't spend the kind of time needed for it. |
